As opposed to what he seems to be suggesting - that the ahadith somehow disprove the Quran. Also, the author is an anglican pastor, and clearly his argument is shaped (tainted?) by his belief in the unfalliblity of the bible. Frank wrote on Feb 3 rd, 2019 at 6:18pm: There is no physical evidence that Mecca existed at the time of Muḥammad. Interesting... but then how would he know? Its not like the Saudi authorities allow any archaeological excavations there do they? Is there anything in the OP you disagree with Gandalf, other than the author not getting his head chopped off? What is it with you and dumbing everything down to such simplistic 'yes/no' dichotomies. Can't I just make my own observations which can be taken or leaven on their own merits? Obviously it should go without saying that I disagree with the whole premise of Islam being invented long before the purported life of Muhammad in Petra, and that Muhammad probably didn't exist - but I deliberately didn't want to get into all that. You obviously don't agree with it either - how on earth could you continue your anti-Islam jihad if you couldn't demonize Muhammad as the beast who invented evil personified - aka Islam? Ah, the old hyperbole to re-position yourself facing an opponent you'd prefer, rather than an opponent you actually face. Old trick, try something better. A meshuggeneh is not a beast. A meshuggeneh is an idiot, like Bwian or gweggy or PB and, well, you. As for "What is it with you and dumbing everything down to such simplistic 'yes/no' dichotomies." - how about the dichotomy of the shahada itself? How much more dumbed down yes/no can you BE???? Hyperbole is describing as an "idiot" someone who proved himself to be remarkably adept and successful in (in your terms) conquering virtually the entire Arabian peninsular, not to mention the most powerful and wealthy city in the region. Offer enough loot in this world and the next and all the cut-throats, desperados and brutes will serve you. History of Islam in a nutshell, really, up to this very day and centuries to come. The meshuggeneh label is a reference to his ethics, theology, philosophy, view of the world and his place in it. Alexander the Great, Scipio Africanus and Julius Caesar were amazing generals but they weren't stupid enough (because they were literate) to claim to be god's final messengers and that their utterances formed, or were from, an eternal, unchangeable book predating all creation but finally brought to men through their lips. You must be illiterate to think this, to say this, to believe this, to make it the centre-piece of your ethical life and compass to action. It's dam madness, told by an idiot, believed by idiots!!! Only a meshuggeneh, an idiot like Mohammed would make such a claim. And only other idiots, the sons of Mohammed, would credit such a claim. Conquering is no affirmation of theological, ethical genius. Don't try it on. (what kind of a sly, dishonest and stupid attempt was that, anyway? Have you no self-respect?) luring an army and a following large enough to conquer umpteen number of autonomous tribes as well as major mercantile hubs in the entire arabian peninsular requires some degree of political and diplomatic nous, in fact a large degree, I would suggest. Last I checked, the civilization that was spawned by this "stupid" claim to prophethood has endured continuously for over 1000 years until this day, and today spans about 2/5ths of the world's population. Granted, we are all inbred retards who play with our dicks after squatting to pee... but still. Where are the empires of the "great" Caeasar, Africanus and Alexander now? Oh thats right, consigned to the dustbin of history.
