Car surfing
Jan 8th, 2019 at 3:02pm

The police should drop the charges, it's probably some kind of first nations tradition or sumfin.

Child filmed riding on car roof rack sparks wave of online abuse, leaving family traumatised

he boy was filmed by motorists and home CCTV cameras on Friday afternoon as the SUV drove through several suburbs on streets including Tonkin Highway, which has a speed limit of 100 kilometres per hour.

Several motorists tried to flag down the boy's mother — who only wished to be known as Erica — as she was driving the car and alert her to the danger.

Police said the driver then stopped and placed the child, who the family say climbed onto the roof by himself, back in the car before driving away.

Police were then called and pulled the car over at a petrol station on Nicholson Road in Harrisdale. There were three children in the car at the time — two secured in child restraint seats and a 4-year-old boy who police allege was unrestrained.

A 36-year-old woman has since been charged with dangerous driving and summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

But family spokesman Gerry Georgatos, from the National Indigenous Critical Response Service (NICRS), said he would like to see the charges dropped, because the woman was not aware her child was on top of the car.

"I'd like to see the charge removed, I don't see there is any reason for dangerous driving because there was no presumption of the mother dangerously driving," he said.

Freakish' incident hits family hard

The family fronted the media on Tuesday for the first time since the footage was broadcast and described the event as "freakish".

"What could have happened has shell-shocked the family, upset them to no end, as it would any family, any household, anywhere in the world," Mr Georgatos said.

"This is an extraordinary event, it was a freakish event, it was something unforeseen."

Mr Georgatos said the family was incredibly thankful the boy was not injured during the incident.

"They are just thankful, they are just counting their blessings that a miracle actually occurred," he said.

"A miracle occurred that the child wasn't actually injured, didn't fall off the roof rack, and this is where their trauma and their grief is acute at this stage at what could have happened.

"It would have been a shock to him too when the car started moving.

"Now it's about supporting the young child, supporting the other siblings and supporting the mother and father."

Mr Georgatos said it was the first time the boy, who has five siblings, had climbed onto the roof of the car, after he managed to free himself from his child restraint.

He said the first thing the child's parents did after getting home was remove the roof rack from the vehicle.
Online trolls add to family's pain

Mr Georgatos said the NICRS would be providing trauma recovery support to the family to help them get through the episode.

He said the family's grief was compounded by the strong public reaction to the airing of the footage, with a wave of online criticism directed towards them.

"I've read some of the comments and that public spectacle that trolls sometimes jump on, and they are disturbing," he said.

"They are disturbing and they are cruel, they are insensitive.

"That also compounds trauma to be exposed to such public brutality."

Not seeing a child on the roof before you drive away. Was she drunk?

A 4-year-old kid in a nappy? Never mind who put him up on the roof rack and drove off, at speed. "He likes it", she allegedly said.

Indigenous? Drunk? Hubby ran off with another woman?

My MUM would never have done that.  Wink

This is why there's a stolen generation.

FBS!!!!!!!

But Mr Georgatos said it wasn't fair to ask whether 36-year-old Erica was doing any sort of checks on her children, such as looking in her rear-vision mirror during the journey]

Gee, retard, why did you move from being accusative that she did not see the kid there before she drove off, and now not checking in the rearview mirror to see if he had taken the belt off etc after she had driven off.

Did the facts get in your way again, you racist bigotted retard?

I'll bet a few more get in your way soon as well.

THAT KID IS A LEGEND!!!!!

Fair dinkum, that 4 year old 'Autistic' sure as hell got up there of his own accord, where 'normal' kids would fail. He's a natural 'rock climber' and will probably conquer Everest & K2 a few times when he is much older.  Cool

I've seen many 2,3,4 year old kids do some amazing 'physical' feats and not just 'autistic' kids. (Like that man I pass in the car, while he jogs - who once jogged all the way to Perth from the East coast of NSW  Shocked) Would you but know some of the situations I also found myself in when I was yay-young knee high than a amoeba.

That kid climbed up and onto the roof-cage of the car to be with his Mummy. She wouldn't take him (inside the car), being a single mum - probably couldn't afford a car seat to do so. So 'he' initiated something so as not to be at home alone. He snuck out and climbed up the car to be sneakily on top. Mummy would come out, thinking him in his bedroom. Nope - he's out the bedroom window and ran to prepare for his joy ride.

Now here's the clincher:  Wink
He consciously 'holds' onto the cage knowing full well what would happen if he didn't. He held tight at all times, while she unwittingly rounded corners without any obvious sign of 'extra' caution.

I think that kid deserves the following awards!!!

Bravery Award (a Son who wants to 'be there' for his mother  Cry)
Spartan Award: For he who tackles any 'beast' (in this case - a Vehicle of Man) above and beyond his 'accepted' ability.
Gotlund Viking Award: For he who begins his path in life - so early in life, due to being aware of his destiny via some natural 'Australian Consciousness' must surely be 'Enlightened'.  Shocked
Dreamtime Award: His future is set, at just the age of 4.

You didn't moan at JS when he morphed the kid in your story into a Aboriginal with a beer bottle. Why not? Because you like him and he's on your team?

Sorry, wasn't a beer bottle.

No - there will be an outcry of 'Houso' (because Boguns are the smart poor), which is regarded something 'less than Black'.

So get a dog up ya with that one.  Grin

Choo Choo edited out the beer bottle but the rest still stands.  I am asking for the link to that.  I never saw Smith say anything like that, but I might have missed it.  Hence the request for the link.

thats probably a bit young but in general i think that risk taking activities should be taken by young boys especially as it is part of a young mans path to go out and explore the world and develop core confidence and resilience .

this for example is a childrens playground from 1900.
we witnessed much less anxiety and snowflake behaviour from this generation as they were socialised to be more resilient.

we dont help people by putting them in cotton wool, we help them by making them resilient

so, in this case , she was wrong but i dont support the "scaldies" in most of these cases

Yeah the mother is totally full of schit. No way in the world a kid could climb out without her noticing.

People have reported her before on other incidences of child neglect and endangement (sic). How this kid is still with her is beyond me. Disgusting.'

Of course it could.

Most drivers hardly ever use their mirrors, and many of them are busy texting on their phones.

The kid could have easily slid out the back window without her knowing.

Yeah the mother is totally full of schit. No way in the world a kid could climb out without her noticing.

Of course it could.

Most drivers hardly ever use their mirrors, and many of them are busy texting on their phones.

The kid could have easily slid out the back window without her knowing.

BS.

They said this isn't the first time the mother has allowed her child up on the roof while driving, Nine News reported.

Natalie Sharp commented on Facebook that the mother did know the child was up on the roof and often drives around with him up there.

People have reported her before on other incidences of child neglect and endangement

No sympathy for the mother, she knew he was up there as they've done it plenty of times and been caught before,' another person wrote.

Bystanders have waved the mother down previously, her comment is that she likes it and she does it a fair bit,' another said.

No, it's not bullshit.

You said:  "No way in the world a kid could climb out without her noticing."

Most drivers hardly ever use their mirrors, and many of them are busy texting on their phones.

The kid could have easily slid out the back window without her knowing.

It's quite plausible.

I'm not saying that's what happened, but it's certainly possible.

That there are witnesses that say they seen it happen several times before says they're lying.

Latest news is:

That kid has a reputation for being found on the House Roof.
He's a 'Climber'!
Even at 4 years of age, an age where the 'fear of death' probably hasn't manifested in his growth.

So chances are he did in fact get up upon the vehicle of his own accord.
So the mother, is not 'directly' at fault.

What colour is the house roof?

I'm asking for Mr Hammer - he thinks these things are important.

"seeing a little black kid on a set of roof racks would surely be something to talk about down at the pub."

Why no mention of the colour of the roof racks, or the pub?

Why did you single out the kid?

What have you got against white people in the IRA? I don't have a problem with the kid. It's the mother I have issues with. And indigenous mothers do have a reputation. I can hear rain hitting the roof of my car. A person would have to be death not to hear a kid banging about on your car roof. This instance is child neglect.

Yes, I think it's child neglect too.

No doubt about it.

However, I'm still curious as to why you didn't mention the colour of the pub.

Because the colour of the pub is irrelevant.

Ah.

Remind me again, why is the colour of the little kid relevant?

I mentioned it because aboriginal parenting skills are very questionable . Look at the stats.

What stats are those, Mr Hammer.

I'll gladly look at them, if you provide them.

Look it up yourself. I'm not your servant. Look up sexual abuse and poor child nutrition for starters.

What colour is the house roof?

I'm asking for Mr Hammer - he thinks these things are important.

why can't I mention the colour of the kid?

You can do whatever you like.

What colour was the roof rack?

What about the car?

Why so triggered because I mentioned the kids skin colour? You mention skin colour all of the time.

I'm curious.

"seeing a little black kid on a set of roof racks would surely be something to talk about down at the pub."

Why no mention of the colour of the roof racks, or the pub?

Why did you single out the kid?

Why always bang on about white terrorists if you don't like me mentioning skin colour? You do it.

And there's the white flag we were all waiting for   Grin

(I didn't realise the kid was being sexually abused on the roof rack - I suppose that was on Facebook too).

Don't downplay this situation Pecca. At the speed this mother was travelling if that kid went off there was a good chance he could have died. I'm sure the government is trying to get that kid into foster care right at this moment.
