Without Rudd's incentive to insulate homes we would likely still have homes burning down because of them today.

The correct spelling was once Menȝies (Mengies) where the ȝ (yogh) was an insular form of g. Early modern typefaces usually didn't have the yogh so it got approximated with something like ʒ and then conflated with z.

Actually, it was a play on words. "Ming the Merciless" was a character from Flash Gordon serials in the 1930s and 1940s. Menzies was "merciless" because he made damn sure that there were no possible challengers to him as the leader of the Liberal Party. He moved them aside or upwards ASAP once they were in line to become more popular than him. It is why the Liberal Party virtually collapsed after he retired as they had a succession of worthless leaders who couldn't control them or satisfy the electorate in it's demands for the recognition of change in it.
