Palmer still STOLE IT>>..proving what a thief he is.

Yes, he stole Twisted Sister's song.

Moreover, it's still played every night on TV here in the west.

Clive will argue that he has not breached any copyright because the Band could never have had  copyright...which long lapsed with respect to Oh Come all Ye Faithful.  It is very very alike melody wise.  Of course, the lyrics are not the same, but neither are Clive's lyrics the same, are they?

The lyrics don't matter - it's the melody.

"Australia ain't gonna cop it, no Australia's not gonna cop it, Aussies not gonna cop it any more."

"Oh we're not gonna take it, no we ain't gonna take it, oh we're not gonna take it any more."

Twisted Sister would have a good case.

think your right

didnt we have a case with Men at Work

pinching a flute riff....no words mentioned.....

cant remember how it ended but it was just a few bars I think...

I HOPE YOUR RIGHT..

Twisted Sister can rip-off 'Oh come all ye faithful', because it was published before 1923 (anything published before 1923 is considered to be in the public domain and is not protected by copyright).

However, Twisted Sister's song was published well after 1923, so Palmer could find himself in trouble.

If *8 of the notes in the melody are the same, it's usually considered plagiarism.

*
(the 8 note thing might have changed over the years, but that was a standard way of determining plagiarism back in the day).

Clive was ripping off "Oh Come all Ye Faithfull," and changed the words Twisted Sister used.

If that Band can use the melody (and as you say, they lawfully can) so can Clive and everyone else.  Copyright for it does not rest with the first to use a pre 23 melody after 23.  It is free game for everyone.

Clive was clearly ripping off the post 1923 song.

I suspect nothing will come of it, though.

Clive will probably sling Dee a few dollars, buy him a meal, and they'll have a good laugh over it.

After all, he's given Twisted Sister some free publicity.

Clive is clearly ripping off Twisted Sister's song.

No reasonable person would be convinced otherwise.

Of course he has in a sense......but so did Twisted Sister rip off OCAYF which Clive then ripped off.  It will be an interesting case but I doubt Twisted Sister have the resources to take Clive on.  When he gets all legally combatant...he never goes away unless it is to his significant advantage.

Put it down to the naked arrogance and sheer power of great wealth.

Palmer's add has to be the cheapest, most pathetic Political add I have ever seen

Talk about a Penny Dreadful

It's 2019 and Palmer churns that amateurish crap out

Does this toad really think he is going to get A Guernsey in the next Federal Government?

Try telling that to all his nickel workers whom he ripped off royally

I love it when a person/company makes an ad with part of a well known song, then when you read the entire lyrics to the song you find that part or the entire song gives an accurate but derogatory description of the person/company. McDonalds did it last year when they used "We Built this City" for their Big Mac anniversary ads, yet the song has an anti corporate message.

Parts of "We're not going to take it" do the same towards Clive Palmer:

Oh you're so condescending
Your gall is never ending
We don't want nothin', not a thing from you

Your life is trite and jaded
Boring and confiscated
If that's your best, your best won't do

A hundred dollars to the first person who sticks those words on an UAP Billboard.

Nice one   Grin

I always like it when American right-wing nationalists use Springsteen's 'Born in the USA'.

They have no idea what the song is about   Smiley

Please...please give us a  break from Clive's 'Cop It' commercials

Are these the worst Political adds ever screened in Australia?

I'll give them no1. and there have been some do..dos over the years

The Weekend Australian Jan 12-13  has reported that Clive has a 50 million dollar war chest for his campaign so look forward to plenty of Jabba the Hut in this campaign which in reality has already started

Wonder how much of that money came from his Nickel workers who were ripped off royally for their super entitlements?

Good to see Clive is O.K. though
