Japan to restart commercial whaling
Dec 22nd, 2018 at 10:00am

I have to say this was pretty much inevitable. The IWC was set up to provide for sustainable whale stocks. It was set up to save the whaling industry, not destroy it. Yet it was quickly taken over by ideologues who invented a new taboo on eating whale meat and saw it as their duty to impose it on others. This was followed by nations such as Australia making unlawful claims to open ocean and then letting pirates enforce the "law" there. The west's actions have been dripping with hypocrisy on this, and we are largely blind to it.

Japan is considering leaving the International Whaling Commission (IWC) to resume commercial hunts after unsuccessfully campaigning for decades to gain support for the cause.

The Japanese Fisheries Agency said on Thursday that officials have not made a final decision, but are considering the step.
