A three-year-old boy has died after the car he was travelling in crashed near Tamworth yesterday afternoon.

The boy was in the backseat of a Great Wall ute travelling south on the New England Highway at Moonbi when it left the road, hitting trees and a boulder. The young boy died at the scene.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, was airlifted to Tamworth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
There was a storm in the area at the time of the crash but police are yet to determine if poor weather played a role
