Deal with Mexico paves way for asylum overhaul at the U.S. border

MEXICO CITY —
The Trump administration has won the support of Mexico’s incoming government for a plan to remake U.S. border policy by requiring asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their claims move through U.S. courts, according to Mexican officials and senior members of President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s transition team.

President Trump briefly described the arrangement in a pair of tweets Saturday evening.
“Migrants at the Southern Border will not be allowed into the United States until their claims are individually approved in court,” Trump wrote. “No ‘Releasing’ into the U.S....All will stay in Mexico.”

The president then issued a threat. “If for any reason it becomes necessary, we will CLOSE our Southern Border. There is no way that the United States will, after decades of abuse, put up with this costly and dangerous situation anymore!” Trump wrote.

Earlier in the day, White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said in a statement that “President Trump has developed a strong relationship with the incoming Lopez Obrador Administration, and we look forward to working with them on a wide range of issues.”

The agreement would break with long-standing asylum rules and place a formidable barrier in the path of Central American migrants attempting to reach the United States and escape poverty and violence. By reaching the accord, the Trump administration has also overcome Mexico’s historic reticence to deepen cooperation with the United States on an issue widely seen here as America’s problem.

According to outlines of the plan, known as Remain in Mexico, asylum applicants at the border will have to stay in Mexico while their cases are processed, potentially ending the system, which Trump decries as “catch and release,” that has generally allowed those seeking refuge to wait on safer U.S. soil.

“For now, we have agreed to this policy of Remain in Mexico,” said Olga Sánchez Cordero, Mexico’s incoming interior minister, the top domestic policy official for López Obrador, who takes office Dec. 1. In an interview with The Washington Post, she called it a “short-term solution.”

“The medium- and long-term solution is that people don’t migrate,” Sánchez Cordero said. “Mexico has open arms and everything, but imagine one caravan after another after another. That would also be a problem for us.”

On Saturday, following publication of The Washington Post story and criticism of the incoming government for acceding to pressure from Trump, Sánchez Cordero and other members of the incoming government denied that an agreement had been reached and said talks with the United States were ongoing.

While no formal agreement has been signed, and U.S. officials caution that many details must still be discussed, the incoming Mexican government is amenable to the concept of turning their country into a waiting room for America’s asylum system.

Mexico has just paid for the wall so much so that a physical Wall is no longer really necessary, would still look nice though.

Trump made it very clear, a real, physical, beautiful wall, paid for 100% by Mexico.

Mexico have made it clear they won't be paying so Trump and more importantly his supporters like yourself, the true suffers of Trump Derangment Syndrome, are trying to find ways to claim Mexico are paying for it, fake news or otherwise.

First of all it was by tariffs, but then someone pointed out to them that Americans are the ones who pay the tariffs.  If only someone could explain that to Trump in a way he'd understand but no, he still boasts about raising BILLIONS from tariffs on China...

Next they tried saying that the deal Trump made in USMCA means that because it's such a good deal compared to NAFTA (which is isn't), Mexico have in essense paid for the wall, which they haven't.

Now you're trying to say that a physical wall is no longer needed because you're claiming a diplomatic solution has been reached?

If it's true that's great but this only validates the counter policy literally everyone else suggested to Trump instead of the Wall, and then there is the other point that Mexico still isn't paying for it and there is no wall.

NOW, Trump and his supporters are in even bigger trouble.  He needs to build the wall to pacify his supporters and not appear weak to them, BUT, he also need the Wall not built so he can use it at the next election because the economic projections from the Whitehouse themselves aren't good.

He needs an issue to take to the next election.

So now Trump has a tough decsion to make.  Does he risk losing the faith of his supporters now and give him self a powerful issues to campaign on for the next election, or does he fight and attempt to actually build the wall but then have to rely on his economic credentials that could go either way between now and the election campaign?

Knowing the kind of ego driven individual Trump is, I think it's a safe bet to assume that no wall will be built before the next election and he'll use it as the cornerstone of his campaign.

Expect more fake news about Mexican Immigrants, legal or otherwise, in the coming months leading up to the campaign.

Let you in on a little secret, Trump.supporters want a nation and control over its laws, borders and immigration policies, specifically who is allowed in, how many and how they might contribute.

What form that control takes is largely irrelevant, we hope it's peaceful and sustainable for the good of all.

Your ego is clinging to individual words and missing the point and purpose of the words entirely.

You can call people that want a nation and their right to control it any racial, biggotted slur you want. That's your problem not ours, we know what we want. All you Can do is hate and loathe yourself and your own society and have absolutely no other purpose.

That's on you.

After all the talk about Lying Hillary, you want to try and dismiss a Trump lie by blaming those who demand he live by the standard he demanded of her and all his other opponents as having an ego problem and clinging to individual words, aka his promises?

Are you really trying that one on us?

So the next time you claim Obama lies, or the Dems have done something, that'll just be your ego clinging to individual words and you missing the point and purpose of their original words?

I'm glad we've set the goal posts going forward.  This will be really handly once the Dems take control of the House and Trump will want to blame them for everything.  We can just blame Trump's ego.

Simples.

No, you tried to spin Trump out of having to be held to account for what he said he would do, in no uncertain terms, in absolute clarity, repeated time and time again, and you failed.

If what you say is true, then it proves Trump lied.

You really aren't that clever, are you? would you like some more rope?

And still not one fak is given by his supporters as long as he has control of the border....which he spectacularly demonstrated to the tens of thousands in the leftist funded caravan still waiting just south of the border.
