Humans would still find a bartering system other than cash.
Go back to the rum days.

I say we have a bank less society.

I very rarely use cash.

I keep at least one of each note in my wallet at all times ($185), but that's just to pay my share of a restaurant bill if someone else pays the total bill on their card.

I really can't remember the last time I bought something for cash from a business.

The only time I use cash is when I buy guitars from private sellers.

Paying with cash means you end up with pockets full of loose change   Angry

And what if I’m trying to sell eggs or honey by the roadside?

Garage sale?

Etc etc...

Would be pay tax on all of that?

I purchased some concrete drain pipes real cheap recently... Cash....  Wink

Everyone working here would pay more than their fair share of tax so a little win by paying cash here and there to save a few bucks sorta makes your day.. its like your own little private win...

And i’d Rather the governments and other spies keep their noses out of my business..  Angry

Direct deposit requires a level of faith in strangers. There seems to be an inordinate amount of scamming these days.

Scams with direct deposits, in person?

Any examples?

No but I think it would be relatively easy to accomplish. But then I am not a scammer and may have the details slightly wrong.

Put in the details but make the transfer at a later time, then cancel before the appointed time.

You just get them to show you the transfer receipt (on their phone, laptop, whatever).

Easy.

I've done loads of direct deposits for stuff off I've purchased off Gumtree and never been ripped off.

I've also sold about 150k worth of stock with a good deal being direct deposit.

Some people asked for a photo of my license (which I happily supplied) others would just deposit after a few emails.
