School kid strike for action on Climate Change.
Dec 3rd, 2018 at 9:10am

Found this quotation surfing around ...author unknown.

Quote:
”To all the school kids going on "strike" for climate change..
You are the first generation who have required air-conditioning in every classroom. You want TV in every room and your classes are all computerised. You spend all day and night on electronic devices. More than ever, you don't walk or ride bikes to school but arrive in caravans of private cars that choke suburban roads and worsen rush hour traffic.
You are the biggest consumers of manufactured goods ever and replace perfectly good expensive luxury items to stay trendy. Your scooters and skateboards are increasingly... electric!
Furthermore, the people driving your protests are the same people who insist on artificially inflating the population growth through immigration which increases the need for energy, manufacturing and transport.
The more people we have, the more forest and bushland we clear and more of the environment is destroyed.
How about this... tell your teachers to switch off the air-con. Walk or ride to school. Switch off your devices and read a book. Make a sandwich instead of buying manufactured goods.
No, none of this will happen because you are uneducated, selfish, virtue signalling little turds inspired by the adults around you who crave a feeling of having a "noble cause" while they indulge themselves in Western luxury and unprecedented quality of life.

DOes the author realise we have ways of powering those things without the need for chucking out CO2?

it harks back to the golden days when backpackers chained themselves to trees.... one or two I believe tried living in the trees.... but they too all drove to their destination  in their little motor cars.....

So have you got the data to prove that?

School power usage. Renewables (except hydro) power generated between say 0830 and 1600. You know actual figures not nameplate capacity?

You do realise that I mean the technology exists to do that, the problem being more that we don't do that at the moment.

Did you see the recent report that said renewables need 5 times the footprint than originally estimated?

Renewables are just not energy intensive enough.

Perhaps, but would you agree that a sensible energy and climate policy is required? At the moment, the Libs policy is head in sun

At least lee is being rational. I disagree with him, but its obvious he at least thinks about a problem.

Contributed by Gary Duffy - Ipswich Mayor Candidate 2020

How many of these kids are wearing hand-me-down clothes from their older sibling?

How many have the same phone that they had last year?

How many of them polish their shoes and look after them and have taken their shoes to be repaired instead of buying new every 6 mths?

How many of them have a solar charger for their Phone?

How many of them walked to school?
I bet none, they all want new clothes, new phones, new shoes, and their parents have to yell at them to get up and get to school and they will not go to school unless their parents take them.

All the Electronics that they buy, the playstations the games in their fancy packaging, the fancy gadget that they sit spinning between their fingers, the Gel they put in their hair, it is all manufactured using electricity and it is all discarded into landfill or into Garbage Incinerators to further pollute the planet.

You all want the latest and newest fancy hairstyle with sprays, gels and special shampoos, conditioners, your parent's generation were happy with short-back-and-sides or just let it grow long and cut it yourself and wash it with a cake of soap.

Your parents got in and had a shower in under 3 minutes, today's kids take 30minutes of hot showers burning through electricity and water like it was free. This all uses energy to provide you this.

Your parents only had take-a-way on special occasions. Take away packaging is the most manufactured and discarded packaging in the world. in 2017 74,000 B-Double semi-trailer loads of compacted fast food packaging garbage was dumped or burnt in toxic incinerators, almost none of it was recycled.

Australians pay 51.5 million visits to fast food restaurants every month, 60 percent of these not surprisingly, are young people, aged between 14 and 29.

Repeat - it is not your parents that are the problem, it is the youth of today that are the problem.

Kids of today, want NEW everything every year, made in sweatshops in China or India where they have the most toxic and environmentally damaging Garbage to Energy plants burning the clothes, shoes, phones, gadgets etc; they wore or had last year.

Every time you buy a phone there has to be Platinum mined. Last year 76 people died mining Platinum in South Africa just so greedy kids can have a new phone every year.
Kids, DO NOT ACCUSE YOUR PARENTS or parliamentarians of destroying the planet, IF it is being destroyed, it is because of your greedy consumerism.

If you want climate action, do not buy anything or get your parents to buy you anything new except for books for the next 18 Months.

It is not the greedy pigs of parliament, it is the greedy kids of today.

I wonder how many of the over 18yo kids that marched signed the Parliamentary petition to stop the toxic Incinerator being built at Swanbank?

Instead of betting none, I would say very few.  Its a bit rich for this Mayor to have a generalized stereotypical swipe at young people.  And he had forgotten the essentials.   It would be to his shock if anyone remind him that its no longer the 1970s.

1) Today, all the electronics are designed to work until their warrantee date.  So that we need to purchase another one generally soon after.  Its how all the big businesses work. For example, Apple.  Yes, the components can last, but the 'non - replaceable" battery, and software modifications makes a 2 year old phone often unusable.
2) We young people are born into this generation of fashion and quest for perfection designed by older people, so that they can profit from us.  We have those shovel down our throats daily on TV on internet.
3) Its none of your business if we take 30 minutes.   Just because you think 3 mins is enough for you older men to get clean, its not the same for younger females.
4) Take away packaging and discarded package is NOT young people's fault.  Its the big business, and companies fault for reducing cost!  So dont try to shovel that down our throat.  Dont be a big meanie to us, you are as guilty as young people as well.  Dont tell me, you have never discarded any packagings in your long old life.
5) Do you know why young people are forced to eat out more?  Because we had to work more, much more than what you used to, sometimes work and study at the same time to keep the ends meet.  So we dont have the time to go into a kitchen and cook at times.  We do this, and we pay tax.  And those tax goes to subsidize your capital gains tax concession, and your negative gearing.
Repeat: its not our problem.  Its your self entitled attitude who thinks that its everyone elses problem is the real problem.  Dont try to blame your generations greed and misgiving against us young people.
