This is true.

I've been abused by bike riders several times, out the front of my office, for simply being on the footpath.

Some are unbelievably rude.

They're the ones who make it bad for all the good bike riders out there.

All I'm saying is that you must ride to survive

If that means giving way to a car, riding in areas where it's safe, not on major arterial roads, and don't try and be the big tough lycra clad Looney, so be it.

Pennant hills road is literally clogged with cars every day and night
Parramatta road is clogged with cars
The Pacific highway is clogged with cars
These are three major, and poorly built roads
There is no bike lanes and the lanes are barely wide enough for a car let alone a truck

But on any day, there is some live a clad Looney riding along, at walking pace, holding up traffic and giving everyone the bird and a mouthful if they complain.

They creep between cars, bumping mirrors, scratching paintwork to get to the front, only to take off at walking pace and holding up everyone again.

Surely they could find a better place to ride and allow people to get to work?

And this ridiculous 1 metre rule means you can't pass them except in the next lane.
They are nothing but a moving road block.

Common sense, a bit of courtesy for other road users and less attitude is the way to go.

And don't say more bike tracks
The ones we have are used by very few riders
They prefer to hold up traffic and prove their right to ride

Until they get squashed that is.

I live in a part of Melbourne that has alot of bike trails.  One called capital city trail can get me from a park near my home to the city with only 1 to 2 traffic lights.   So i consider myself lucky.  I would never ride on the roads to the city, as its too dangerous.  And i get very nervous when I know there is cars behind my back staring at me as I hold up the traffic.

I give bike riders full respect on the road, They are entitled to the lane they are in - all of it.

When I finally get past a bike like everyone else there is a significant relief. On occasion I have passed a bike rider after much delay to stop at the next lights and see the bike wander down between traffic to the front of the queue.

The second time I pass the ignorant pick I just blow straight past him at the first half chance.

Anyone who went to primary school in the '60s and '70s, as I did, will remember these safety messages on the back of their school exercise books:

LSD was also legal back then.

I remember the LATTER - but not the FORMER ?

The best retaliation the cyclist can have against recalcitrant motorists - is the water pistol - filled with paint stripper

That's real smart

And then drivers fill their windscreen washers with acid or oil

The best thing riders can do is to use courtesy and get off major arterial roads at peak hour.

Cyclists don't pay rego for their bikes so they don't have the same rights as car drivers.

I pay rego for my car, I pay insurance. You can stick that tired argument in your fat roll.

So do you pay rego on all road going vehicles...or just one?
I pay rego on my car...why isn't my trailer covered under that same rego....or my dirtbike?

You can stick that tired old argument in your fat roll.
Register your bike or get the farrkk off the road.

Cyclists are safe around me on the road - just not around themselves at times.... perfect example was driving up Mt Wellington in Hobart yesterday.. narrow road - two cyclists came down at speed and cut corners... big thrill but stupid... anyone but me would probably take one out..
