The chance of this bloke killing someone else was high, I would have shot for the fattest part so a stray bullet had less chance of killing an innocent person.

A dirty business, no one would want to be in that position.

It could have been "Suicide by police"

Certainly, suicide by police is a definite possibility!

The term is either "suicide by proxy" or "suicide by authority".

Here on Earth, there is this thing called "training".

Come on Rocky,,, when did they start training with real dead bodies?

They have gore books to study. And I would assume videos on gorey situations. They probably have some footage on assailants getting the drop on police officers. I would only assume that any supervising officers would occasionally test their recruits with some mind games.

I recently did my first aid course. We used resuscitation dummies to practice cpr. Are you really trying to be that disingenuous?

I contend you would feel different about the death of a resuscitation dummy and a the death of a child.

My whole starting point was that its difficult to know how you are going to feel in a real situation and therefore to blame someone for choosing that career.

Having said that I would never choose that career because I think know my limits.
But there must be trained people that are trained and still hit the wall.

It could be we are actually agreeing.

I don't think the cops were adequately trained to deal with this terrorist attack.

The Ute was a bomb that failed to detonate, can you imagine the carnage if it did blow up?

What if the terrorist was wearing an explosive vest which is quite common for muslims, would the cops have been blown up with him and many others including trolley guy?

The police were dealing with him as a single guy with a knife they need better training and to use their brains with terrorist attacks.

As FD would say- The impotence of muslims should not be mistaken for lack of intent

Leftists and the Ayatollahs have a lot in common when it comes to criticism of Islam, they don't tolerate it.

I agree: the cops looked RELATIVELY untrained... obviously they were trained in something but god knows what that was... it was basically next to inadequate..... otherwise they would have told the member from the public to go away because they had the situation under control- to allow trolley guy to participate meant they didn't have the situation under control!

I think it was reported they were rookie cops not long out of cop school.

Unfortunately it is not possible to fully train or prepare anyone for precisely a life or death struggle unfolding in seconds.

Military has done a lot of work to get soldiers to actually shoot at an enemy, research on it shows it is never  100℅ but they have improved a lot. A percentage of guys will either refuse to shoot or shoot so as not to hit anyone.

I contend that I have already been through critically near-death moments. I recovered. I am sure emergency services recover just as well.

Ah you see what we both did brocolli Rockolli.

We imagined other people had the same capacity as we have.

I have no capacity for heroism, bordering on complete cowardice, while you seem to be quite resilient.

I doubt the police will ever get to train on live, bomb laden knife wielding scumbags.
So every event will be a learning opportunity for those brave enough to take the job on.
