ScoMo kicks sand in union faces
Nov 5th, 2018 at 7:44am

ScoMo kicks sand into the union parasites dials as he delivers election winning stuff to the Qld farmers wanting union free fruit pickers.

The union parasites have long tried to "unionize" fruit pickers to send fruit growers broke.

Morrison moves on farm labour demands by loosening backpacker and Pacific islander visas

Farmers groups and the Nationals have demanded more foreign workers to help growers tackle the harvest season.

The Morrison government will loosen restrictions on two schemes that bring temporary farm workers into Australia, after months of pressure from the farming lobby and warnings fruit would rot on trees unless a labour solution was found.

The move comes as prime minister Scott Morrison begins a tour of Queensland this week.

While the Farmer’s Federation and the Nationals had been calling for a new agricultural visa, the government will instead loosen restrictions on two existing visas: the working backpacker visa and the Pacific islander scheme.

"Australians filling Australian jobs is my number one priority, but when this isn't possible we need to ensure our farmers aren't left high and dry with rotting crops, especially in the strawberry industry,” Mr Morrison told News Corp on Monday.

The age cap on backpackers will be lifted to 35 for some countries, the prime minister told a Queensland newspaper. Backpackers will also be able to stay with the one employer for up to a year, rather than six months.

The seasonal worker program allows a limited list of employers to bring in workers from Timor Leste, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

The workers are currently allowed to stay for up to six months – or nine months for those from Nauru, Kiribati and Tuvalu.

The changes will reportedly increase the cap to nine months for all countries, and cut the costs for employers in the scheme. Employers will only have to pay $300 towards the worker’s travel costs, instead of the current $500.

The prime minister is expected to announce the changes on a Queensland farm on Monday.

SBS News has contacted the office of immigration minister David Coleman for more information.

The Lefties just can't cope anymore as ScoMo the people's PM steadily slices Labor up like a Gorgonzola sausage.

Look out Lefties get off the line because the ScoMo express in coming pushing the broken down Labor slow train into a dead end side track.

'The ScoMo’ Express': PM Scott Morrison kicks off Queensland charm offensive
Updated 1 hour ago

VIDEO: Prime Minister Scott Morrison is embarking on a blitz of key marginal seats throughout Queensland, roughly six months out from the next election.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is poised to relax visa rules for foreign farm workers as he tries to shore up support in a swag of key Queensland marginal seats.

Mr Morrison will visit the Gold Coast on Monday as he kicks off a road trip throughout the Sunshine State, announcing federal funding for the city's light rail network.

...
The PM will tour Queensland on a specially marked bus - "The ScoMo Express".

He will also outline a range of visa changes aimed at helping farmers fill critical staff shortages.

Pacific Islanders taking up seasonal work will be able to stay three months longer and the age limit for working holiday visas for some countries will be lifted to 35.

Backpackers will no longer need to leave jobs every six months and will be able to triple the length of their stay if they do extra agricultural work.

"Australians filling Australian jobs is my No.1 priority, but when this isn't possible we need to ensure our farmers aren't left high and dry with rotting crops, especially in the strawberry industry," Mr Morrison told News Corp.

The changes come after the Nationals failed to deliver a promised agricultural visa and the prime minister's attempt to force jobless Australians to pick fruit was rejected.

The prime minister fired the stater's gun on his Queensland campaign on Sunday, announcing a multimillion dollar pipeline to secure Townsville's water supply.

Success in the Sunshine State will be critical to his fortunes at the next election, which is due by May.

But his trip got off to a rocky start, with senior Queensland Liberal Steve Ciobo refusing to say whether the federal government's stocks would improve under Mr Morrison's leadership.

"I don't think it serves anyone's purpose and I also don't think, frankly, that Queenslanders or indeed Australians more generally care about what's happened," Mr Ciobo told Sky News.

Senior Labor MP Wayne Swan said the prime minister had a deplorable record in Queensland.

"It is one of savage cuts to health, to education, of cuts to penalty rates," Mr Swan said.

"Mr Morrison's visits to Queensland have been brief and far between ... Sightings of Mr Morrison in Queensland are rarer than sightings of Migaloo the white whale."

Mr Morrison will travel aboard a sky-blue bus emblazoned with a larger-than-life photograph of the prime minister.

He is expected to make stops in the electorates of Logan, Forde and several Brisbane-based seats.

Stops are also planned in Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Gladstone and Mackay, taking in the marginal seats of Capricornia, Flynn and Dawson.

When he led the Tourism Board, his leadership failures there eventually saw him sacked. He's making the same mistakes now: captain's picks and lack of consultation.

He's probably hoping that his chaotic shotgun approach to leadership will eventually hit a few targets. He will miss a lot though and these misses will do damage. Worse, the public have already made up their mind, and the bad 47-53 polling against the government will not shift much in the next six months.

Fake news from a very worried Liberal troll.

Shorten just has to sit back and wait and let the government self-destruct.

Morrison is doomed as the more he gets out there, the less the voters like him. He was sacked as head of the Tourism Board for failures of leadership. The voters will do the same to him at the election.

Water plan for Townsville in the pipeline
Updated 23 hours ago

...
Prime Minister Scott Morrison is set to announce $195 million in funding to secure Townsville's water needs for the next 20 years, the Sunday Mail reports.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is expected to announce funding for new water infrastructure for Townsville during his four-day trip to Queensland.

The federal government will provide $195 million to fund a second pipeline to the Burdekin River to ensure the town's water supply for the next 20 years, The Sunday Mail reports.

The town currently gets its water from the Ross River Dam and this is supplemented during drought by water from the Burdekin River. The second pipeline has been recommended by a Townsville Water Security Taskforce.

"Last time I was in Townsville to announce our investment in the port, I listened carefully to the issues being raised about Townsville's long-term water supply," Mr Morrison told the paper.

"We are taking decisive action to secure Townsville's water supply for decades to come - nothing is more important for a growing city.

"More water means more jobs in the short and long term."

VIDEO: Greenies put carbon tax back on the agenda

The political war of words over climate change has escalated with Labor hitting back at a Greens push to re-introduce the carbon tax. The Greens say the major parties are too weak on reducing emissions. But they have in turn been accused of ruining the best chance of an effective scheme.

Why boat-stopper PM let the kids off Nauru

...
Lame duck Phelpsy and ScoMo after the Wentworth by-election forced a dramatic shift in policy. Photos: AAP

Four days before the Wentworth by-election, new Immigration Minister David Coleman summoned crossbench MPs to his office to talk Nauru.

It was Tuesday, October 16.

His message was simple. If you get all the kids off Nauru tomorrow, the boats will start again.

Those attending included independents Rebekha Sharkie, Andrew Wilkie, Cathy McGowan and the Greens’ Adam Bandt.

It was a long meeting and a large one conducted in a conference room in Parliament House.

The minister had brought along high-ranking border force officials, wearing military-style uniforms.

The uniforms were a reform during the Morrison years, privately mocked by Malcolm Turnbull, who liked the good old days when border officials were still civvies wearing bad jumpers.

But just 13 days after that warning to the independents, Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton would announce his goal of “zero” kids on Nauru.

So what changed in that time? It’s simple.

On October 20, Kerryn Phelps contested and won the Wentworth by-election, joining the ranks of the independents.

Far more importantly, her victory delivered a hung Parliament.

Suddenly, the threat of the government losing a vote on the floor of Parliament, on the totemic issue of border protection no less, was very real.
