Psalms 119:11
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

That is the point, Yadda.
No need for the biblical quotes as they are out of context and serve no purpose here other than being a whip (not their original purpose).
The point is well made without them and without whipping those who have no ears - or those who might have.

It starts with Abraham and it ends with Jonestown KoolAid.
The messiah/Jesus myth is only part of it.
As for justifying it all on the grounds of free will, my cat has free will, perhaps not with manipulative power of higher mammals, but that cat makes up its mind what its going to do.
Scripture is recorded [i believe]
as God's witness against all men.
Those who do believe that [is so], can profit from that belief.
But those who do not believe that, have that witness against them, that they chose to reject God's word.
And not only that, but that they chose to reject
that hope, which God's word conveys to all men.
In that rejection, men are not rejecting the idea of some 'sky fairy' or, the idea of some imagined spirit being,
they are rejecting the righteousness of God, our creator.
.
And it is easy, and it makes so much sense [to us], to choose to reject the righteousness of God.
IMO, many men see the righteousness of God, as being too 'black and white'.
Many men, have decided, that they also want 'options' and 'get-out' clauses, in any rules which apply to themselves!

A system of laws [like those laws, that some of us suppose God gave to men, i.e. the ten commandments], will only have a beneficial affect upon a group of people, when that group of people all broadly agree, that they can all see some merit, in following such laws.
Romans 10:3
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
Men [us], are really, really, good, at changing the world around us, to suit our own preferences [desires]!
But look at where, all of our choices [some remarkably good, and some very, very, bad], brought mankind, in this present world !
To human confusion [for many], and to violence and to never-ending conflict [among men].

GOD'S RULES AND LAWSNever old.IMAGE....
Many people are repulsed by what scripture contains, particularly by what O.T. scripture contains.
We see the violence described [in scripture], but we 'pass over' those lessons which we ought to take to heart [as being irrelevant to ourselves, and to our own lives].
And that is a mistake, imo.
Those people, spoken of, in O.T. scripture,
they are us!

I am a student of the Bible.
How i view O.T. laws, is that those laws teach man how to approach righteousness.
I firmly believe that.
And imo, those O.T. laws do teach man ethical behaviour.
And, [i believe that] that was their intended purpose.
How great, ancient Israel could have been among all the nations [as an example to all mankind], if they had only chosen to adhere to the laws which they had been given [
and which they had covenanted to obey].
Deuteronomy 4:1
Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.
2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
.....
6 Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
7 For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?

And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?if you got this far, sorry bobby.
