Australia in push to ban death penalty

Quote:
Australia will lead a push to stop pregnant women, children, and people with mental or intellectual disabilities being handed the death penalty as a step towards its global abolition.

Foreign Minister Marise Payne on Monday launched a concerted diplomatic strategy to end the death penalty.

Australia also aims to reduce the number of executions and the number of crimes that attract the death penalty

i think we need to be a bit more humble about issues like this.

you have to show you are a person who can put your own house in order before you go releasing your plans to change the world.

i doubt that anyone in the federal parliament can lay claim to that.

the politicians should all spend today cleaning up their office, untangling the cords on their computer, cleaning up their pidgeon holes, working on establishing good relations with their staff, chatting to their wives and husbands about mundane things.

you have to have some humility and recognise your zone of competance.

once you are the sort of person who has sorted themselves out, has a clean environment, a good diet, is sleeping well, has a good family , has repaired relationships with your mum and dad and neighbours, maybe then you can gracefully try to fix a few things in your local community, maybe a school sporting facility, maybe a local park, maybe a local road.

cut your teeth proving your competance with the little stuff.

then in 40 years you might be able to offer an opinion on the death penalty.

maybe

probably not though  Wink

Foreign Minister Marise Payne on Monday launched a concerted diplomatic strategy to end the death penalty.

Australia also aims to reduce the number of executions and the number of crimes that attract the death penalty

Interesting

What launched this announcement?

Was Marissa Payne instructed to do so by her overseas masters?

Australia does not have the death penalty.  So in what way does Australia plan to 'reduce the number of executions and the number of crimes that attract the death penalty'?

In her announcement, Marissa Payne claims the death penalty is 'degrading'

Degrading for whom?

How about the victims of murder/rape?  Has Marissa Payne been raped and murdered and stuffed, dismembered, into a barrel, for example?  Would she consider that to be 'degrading' ?

Apparently, Ms. Payne is more concerned about the perpetrators and is anxious they should not be 'degraded' by execution

Again, interesting.  Her priorities are 'interesting'

For example, wasn't that individual until recently the Minister for Defence?  Yes.  I checked.  She was Minister for Defence

As Minister for Defence, wasn't it Ms. Payne's job to oversea the defence of Australia?  And didn't that include arranging the potential deaths of overseas enemies?  Did Ms. Payne THEN consider death of enemies to be 'degrading'?  And aren't murderers, terrorists, etc. believed by the legal system to be 'enemies' of whichever populace?

As Minister for Defence, wasn't it Ms. Payne's job to arrange to send Australian troops overseas to kill and die?   Did she THEN believe killing and dying in defence of our nation or simply at the whim of the US, to be 'degrading'?

And what about the domestic arena where abortion on demand is almost passed --- is abortion not 'degrading' for the foetus -- for the doctor/nurses -- for the mother?

Interestingly, prior to becoming Foreign Minister, Ms. Payne was Minister for Defence and prior to that was Minister for Human Services

now, she presumes to speak on behalf of ALL Australians and has announced it her intention to launch a concerted diplomatic strategy to end the death penalty across the globe, apparently

What a shame Ms. Payne did not first poll the Australians she claims to represent and who PAY her, to ask if Aussies support her strange piece of grandstanding

because innumerable Aussies have demanded a return to the death penalty, here in Australia

it is degrading because everyone has individual value.

this is an idea that was introduced to the west by christianity.

each person , no matter what their sins, has value.

its interesting that the new age aetheists and haters of christianity cant see that they got their pre suppositions from the morality that they are so deeply embedded in that they cant even see it.
a bit like the fish that has no idea what water is  Cheesy Cheesy

Don't include me in your sweeping statement

I'm in favour of the death penalty

I'm not in favour of Australia sending troops overseas to kill and die.  I'm not in favour of late term abortion.  I'm not in favour of lenient sentences for animals who slaughtered others out there in suburbia and the bush.  I'm not in favour of liberal parole

but I do favour removal of certain people, permanently and for the good of the majority and because it makes me feel better knowing they're gone for good as punishment for their crimes and will never be able to enjoy reliving those crimes or boasting about them or jerking off to the memory of them, etc

Let me know how that works out for them.

I don't need to do anything.

They'll need to get past the Crimes Legislation Amendment (Torture Prohibition and Death Penalty Abolition) Act 2010.

Like I say, let me know how that works out for them   Wink

legislation lol

not worth the paper it's written on

and you know it

Voters are power

which is why they have never dared to put return of the death penalty to the vote

because they know the result in advance and are terrified of it

just as they were in West Oz when they held meetings at night, in private, and decided to withhold from the public the true extent of the slaughter of a woman and her three children

in private.  in secret.  at night. because they were terrified of the baying mob.  Baying for a death sentence for the perpetrator

so they HID the true extent of that slaughter from the public

You know and so do most of us, that government is scared of one thing more than most

and that is an outraged public demanding return of the death penalty

Government is terrified of that

and it's NOT because government values lives, as is abundantly obvious

You continue to prove you are powerless

a damp squib

pretending to hold up a 'piece of paper' in face of millions, worldwide, who daily demand the death penalty for certain crimes

YOU do not own that 'piece of paper' greggy

YOU are just one voice and a not very popular one, in a little online forum

anyway, aren't you supposed to be working at your new career?

Fear the Mob, greggy.  Fear the Mob.  The government does
