ATC...what is that?

The Australian Turf Club

It runs the Everest.

It is technically a not for profit organisation just like the Opera House Trust and the Gays whom would have its own association.

The ATC was promoting its feature event and the Gays were promoting its mardi gra.....no friggin diff....except that the holier than thou wowser brigade got on their soap box to spruke their hypocrisy about the Everest... Sad

Are you seriously attempting to tell me that the ATC has no commercial interest in that issue?  Really?

The ATC is not a commercial entity, It's a sports association, it has no shareholders.... Grin

It was promoting its sporting event same as the Gays were promoting their event.

The first prize for The Everest was 5.8 million dollars

For mine it is an obscene amount of money for a race

Even the Melbourne Cup doesn't nearly approach what is on offer with this race

It represents the Great Divide in our society with the haves lavishing these vast sums on gambling

Where is the money coming from to fund a 10 million dollar horse race?

It is all out of whack

In any case racing authorities have said they will not repeat the performance with  then Opera House

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has done her and her Libs irreparable damage with her stance on this

If there was any doubt about how out of touch the Premier is, is has been aptly demonstrated with this scenario

A big part of the opera house was funded by a lottery so that's a load of tripe,

Besides the racing industry and big races such as the Everest bring in big dollars to the State's economy directly and indirectly and the jobs and govt revenues that go with it.

The Rentacrowd's dummy spit was the only embarrassment

You can take the Gladys out of the Armenian peasantry - but you can't take the Armenian peasantry out of the Gladys....

Poor Fellow, My Country.... another useless mouth fattened and fed for life out of the public pocket...

Then it's such a big deal they don't need to advertise it on the Opera House - the Opera House is for..... Opera etc...

Yes I've heard that argument a lot but it simply doesn't wash. It's not morally equivalent.

A lottery over 40 years ago to partially fund infrastructure can't be compared to using an Australian icon as a billboard to advertise a horse race.
