"Smoking could soon be banned in more of Canberra's public spaces, with Health Minister Meegan Fitzharris focussed on having some of the toughest laws in the country."

More Canberra public spaces on smoking ban hit list

you almost never see anyone smoking in public in ACT anymore...

what a shame they dont take a look at people taking dogs to sporting events.. in particular those involving children.....   if there is anything sick and ugly its watching a dog do its business as and where it wants too... picking it up [ if we are lucky]doesnt eliminate the filth left behind  for kids to play in......sorry but every time I see dogs  in areas where children play I want to dob them in......but it isnt illegal... like smoking.. Angry Angry Angry Angry

We're seeing it less and less here in Perth, which is great.

A few years ago, you could walk down the main street of the Perth CBD and there would be dozens of office workers outside buildings puffing away.

You still see them now, but not nearly as many as there used to be.

I look forward to the day when it's completely banned in all public outdoor areas.

As far as dogs go, you should visit Vienna.

Now, I love Vienna, but the dogs are a problem.

I've been in some of the best (poshest) restaurants they have, but you still find dogs under the tables.

AND, they smoke in the restaurants.

Disgusting.

Never gonna happen.

They make too much from the taxes.

Which goes towards the medical costs associated with smoking; the accidental arson from people throwing their cigarettes butts out their car windows; the loss in work productivity; and the waste of money on cigarettes that could have been spent on other things.

Smokers act like they fund the entire country with their cigarette taxes. Non-smokers know that smokers are a drain on the country.

If smoking is illegal outside then I want to be able to ban those cars and trucks driving by spewing their exhaust fumes. That really annoys me when I'm trying to enjoy a smoke  Angry

C'mon, it's a revenue raiser under the guise of a benevolent government. So too are road law revenues that are becoming more strict as the frogs boil.

Cars are also taxed, as is their fuel that the drivers purchase for the cars to run. It is actually a current debate about whether we are paying too much tax on fuel, seeing that fuel is now $1.70c/L.

It's not revenue raising at all (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I speak to the guys who patrol the no-smoking areas in the Perth CBD, and they tell me that they hardly ever issue fines for smoking.

They just let the smokers know that what they're doing isn't allowed, and politely ask them to extinguish their fags.

I look forward to the day when all the streets of the Perth CBD are no-smoking areas.

Working in the Melbourne CBD I've noticed that during business hours the streets are lined with people smoking out the front of buildings. You end up walking through a cloud of other peoples smoke.

I can see a time when smoking in all public spaces is banned. You will only be able to smoke on private property.
