Quote:A powerful earthquake that rocked the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and triggered a tsunami has killed at least 384 people, with Indonesia’s vice-president, Jusuf Kalla, warning the death toll could rise into the thousands.
Kalla said there had been “no word” yet about casualties in the Sulawesi city of Donggala, home to 300,000 people.
The Red Cross said in a statement that the situation was “extremely worrying”.
“We’re now getting limited communications about the destruction in Palu city, but we have heard nothing from Donggala and this is extremely worrying.”
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/sep/28/tsunami-hits-indonesian-cities-aft...I've never received a satisfactory explanation of why an interventionist God would wreak such havoc with a totally unnecessary natural disaster that kills thousands of people, many of them innocent children.
There will be those who will absurdly blame the disaster on the victims' religion, but this ignores such disasters such as the 2004 Boxing day tsunami where 230,000 people of all different faiths were killed. It also ignores the many other natural disasters that kill people of all different faiths.
In fact the common denominator in surviving these natural disasters is to live in a rich society with a strong science ethic to provide prediction, warning and better building codes.
In fact Australia, which ranks 5th as most atheist nation in the world, has barely any natural disasters.
