Most People Won't Like This

Child's character fixed at birth, says top geneticist

More correctly, fixed at conception

The bad 'uns, the wrong 'uns, those just like evil old grandpa and malicious grandma

Most have known it for hundreds, thousands etc., of years

But for some reason, each person wants to believe their present and future kids are tabula rasa

Tabula rasa refers to the epistemological idea that individuals are born without built-in mental content and that therefore all knowledge comes from experience or perception. Proponents of tabula rasa generally disagree with the doctrine of innatism which holds that the mind is born already in possession of certain knowledge. Generally, proponents of the tabula rasa theory also favour the "nurture" side of the nature versus nurture debate when it comes to aspects of one's personality, social and emotional behaviour, knowledge and sapience

Junk in, junk out

You don't get apples from pumpkin seeds

So the majority will choose to dismiss the geneticist, which is why prisons and psyche wards are full and why rrrsholes infest society

How soon?  How soon before reality refuses to be swept to the side and ushers in a golden age of licences to breed, pyhysical, mental and genealogical assessment of any animal on two legs that believes in its right to breed more of itself?

Even in that article, that geneticist seems to suggest genetics and environment.

Think back to when you first started school, how did you act compared to all the other kids?

Why do you think I asked the question? I can remember just about everything because it made a big impression on my mind. I'd never mixed with so many kids before who obviously were kids from genetic Lib or Lab families, mostly Lab because it was a public school. The kids were screaming and shouting in the playground and I stood back and wondered what all that was about. Born genetically to wind themselves up for a future in politics I suppose

It's no wonder I used to come first or second in my class most of the time

I was a gentle, peaceful, and top intelligent kid... but then - I'm an alien according to some....

My observation is that there is a significant genetic component in children... why else would a niece have the same facial thing as I - raise one eyebrow in disbelief when being fed bullshit?  We are hugely Gaelic by genetics - a cousin's daughter, with no idea of our ancestry, chose to study Gaelic at school...

With my own siblings - raised in a very neglected and violent environment - I observed that any descent into insanity as a result was a combination of nature and nurture.... that my mother - who was clinically insane - raised only one sibling - and my mother was an off the planet alcoholic and quite mad... and that sibling went into deep drugs and such... followed by her daughter going into deep drugs and such - while the rest of us (apart from my clinically insane older brother) - lead normal, suburban lives without any of that - shows to me that nature and nurture are clearly what generates the final result.

ONE of the major factors in the descent of two out of six siblings.... was drugs....... that's 'nurture' self-chosen .....

I cannot begin to describe to you the incredible harm those two siblings caused for the rest of us.... hence my divorce from my family and so forth....

I can remember and it was about 55 years ago. I was despondent, I cried when my mother left be in the quad of St Dominic's in Innaloo. No other kids were crying that I remember but I wasn't looking for that, I'm sure there were others. I can't remember the first day of classes but I remember the tone. Nuns are not motherly at all.

I can remember when I was 18 months old. I told my mum about when her mum and sister came to Perth and the presents they brought and where we were sitting at the table. My mum said you can't possibly remember that you were 18 months old. I recounted the gift, a cup, a small plate and a bowl wrapped in tissue paper with rabbits on them all. I didn't know of Peter Rabbit then but that's what I think they were.

Edit: Now I think about it there are a few more memories from before school I have.

I think many people remember a hand full of very specific early memories.

I remember my grandmother falling over. She died before I was 2. Also remember my cousin as a baby he was 12 months younger than me. However the vast majority of mundane memory has long gone.

In my case you were right.

The issue is not so much about liking it as that it is obviously rubbish.

Maybe more than a handful. There are quite a few things I remember from before school, many things I remember from when I was young, after starting school. Some of them as clear as day. If it was not for me holding them all my life I might think I was in early stages of Oldtimers.
