Cabbage

I love cabbage, particular the fermented variety.

The Gordon fridge always has some kimchi or sauerkraut, and usually both.
I can easily eat a KG of either per week.

Todays lunch, I'm calling it kidney beans with 3 kinds of cabbage.

A cup of cooked kidney beans into a large wok with a handful of peanuts and cooked until hot
Added at the same time, half a cup of both sauerkraut and kimchee and a cup of fresh cabbage, cooked just long enough until the fresh cabbage starts to get soft, but still has a crunch

No extra condiments required as the kimchi has plenty of zing.

Delicious, and it's all about gut health these days and the fermented foods are supposed to be so good for you, particular when combined with the fiber of the beans.

If you haven't eaten a meal like this in ages, you'd be just about launching into space, but I eat beans every 2nd or 3rd day so my gut is used to the fiber.

Can't say that I am that big on sauerkraut but I like cabbage and I love coleslaw but not that sloppy and chunky commercial variety.

I make a lot of very finely shredded coleslaw and always make my own dressing that I apply very liberally.

Oh I love sauerkraut. It was on special today for $7 for a 2.4KG so bought  x3.

How are you with kimchi?

Yeah commercial coleslaw (like commercial anything) is rank.
I miss my Gran's, she used to just call it slaw!!

Try this, slice your cabbage thinly and drizzle it with some of that japanese vinegar salad dressing and a sprinkle of japanese seasoning. Nomnom.

As a probiotic I prefer Kefir.  Problem is that I keep killing the culture and have to get more.

I've seen the inside of Gordon's fridge and it's true - he does love cabbage. So do I. I have gone weeks and weeks and eaten it every day. My favourite way to cook and eat it is simply to fry some in a pan and eat it with salt.

I'll be sure to have a bunch of different cabbage dishes for the 2018 Ozpol EOY party.

A nice coleslaw for Codsy, some salted fried for you and a nice hot vindaloo cabbage, just in case......
