Melbourne

Well I'm driving down to Melbourne on Sunday and returning Tuesday. Taking my client down for some Medicals.

I've offered, if we have time. To walk through Collingwood (Sudanese Ghetto) and take a photo in regards to bet with Sir Last Nail. Of course, I'll be wearing my Cronulla "Sharkies" beanie - just to rub it into Melbournians.  Cheesy
I might cop more flak from the Whiteys for doing that, than the Sudanese (Sudis).  Grin

Melbourne has changed a lot, since I lived there for 7 years around the year 2000.
Anything worth seeing, besides a cliché 'Harlem' ghetto in Collinwood?

The first time I went to Melbs, I got a 6am flight after a very late night at work.  Jumped in a curry cab (yuck) and went to the  hotel near my conference,  in Reservoir!  I checked in and passed out for a few hours.

I was to meet some of the boys in the city centre so still feeling a bit discombobulated I walked to the train station.

Waiting to cross the road, a pink ute emblazoned on the side in huge letter 'Bogan Princess' stopped right in front of me.

For the entire weekend every other Melbourne cliche occured including 4 seasons in a day

Give me sydney any day.

And how about those stupid laneways full of graffiti.

Tell you what, the people who sell extra tight black jeans and duffle coats in Melbourne must be doing a roaring trade.

Yes, they have café-lattes, chic graffiti and hipsters down their laneways and alleyways.
While in Sydney, its junkies, muggers, homeless and rubbish.

In a Melbourne alleyway, its mental abuse by a rich gay hipster.
In a Sydney alleyway, its physical abuse by a poor redneck houso.

And there's the difference. The people in Melbourne hang out where people in Sydney like to vomit.

Melbourne is like a swimming pool
where you just keep putting more chlorine in to kill the bugs.

I lived in Melbourne for 7 years.
I was at the end of an era.
That era was of a Melbourne that had its own soul and Victoria was like a different country.
It was indeed it's own little world, but for all the right reasons.
It was the age of VFL, not AFL - when players used to actually jump high and take marks.

...then AFL came, then the Casino came (and the Murray R towns started to go quiet at holidays) with 24/7 gambling for the 'susceptible' VICS, then the Conductors went, then 'Colonial' Stadium came, then the 'mass-production' Burbs for Retail began spreading, then NRL came to town.

That was when Melbourne, as 'itself' died and just another 'city' like 'any other' was emerging. Just a pre-fabricated money-making machine, rather than a 'home', a night out and a good game.
Quality was kicked out of bounds and Quantity was thrown in as a 'square' ball. It wasn't alone, Sydney also seemed to have 'died' and become a city that had 'sold its soul'.

Brisbane & Adelaide are only now losing theirs.

At the year 2000, I believe that the Golden Age of Australia, was over. After that, things just sort of got 'desperate'.

When I was last in Melbourne about a month ago. It seemed that even Aussie Rules was just like a faded myth, swallowed up by the City itself and all of its population. It seems that Aussie Rules fans still come out in droves, but in regards to the 'whole' population - they are just another minority.

Melbourne has too many people in it now.
There is bad traffic congestion & always trouble finding parking.
I prefer to live close to Geelong but the
trouble is that all my friends are in Melbourne.

Plus  Melbourne is just about flat.

How could anyone live in a flat city?
