Wow, they really do have you over a barrel.

You don't have to email 100 contacts. Just use gmail from now on, and in a year or two you probably won't care any more if the optus one disappears.

So tell me -
what is Google getting in return for their free email address?

Lots of people upgrade and use their paid service.

Thanks for trying to help me.

I tried - using XX as 30.

Adjust ring time      **61*321**XX# (then press 'Send' or 'Call')

it says Connection problem or invalid MMI code.

Sounds odd......I used the Telstra equivalent when I purchased my smartphone a couple of years ago...are you sure you hit the # button before pressing send or call?????

Thanks - it's working now on the 4th attempt.
The phone waits 30 seconds before jumping to voice mail.
I am slowly getting this phone right.

cheers
Bobby.

Advertising revenue. The same thing that pays for this website.

They have a few thousand competitors all offering a similar service on the same basis, though not as good technically. Just because you pay for your optus email does not mean you get a better product or that the company acts more ethically.

I believe they scan your emails for key words &
then make sure that you see advertising that might interest you.

I know someone who used Gmail & was writing many emails about preparing dog food for his dogs.
The next thing he started to get adverts all the time for dog food.

Hi Aussie,
I've got adblocker on but I remember years ago -
they were all about Asian girls wanting my fat boy.
Have they changed now?

OK - I've had some time to work the smartphone out.

The people here & my friends were right –

gmail  works on my mobile

whereas Optus webmail & Hotmail
don’t show me all the email buttons.
With gmail on my smart phone  I can see all the buttons:

compose, reply, attach, reply to all, in box, out box  etc, etc

What’s wrong with dickheads at Optus that their webmail system doesn’t work with smartphones?
I didn’t want to put Outlook on my mobile but I could if change my mind.

By the way – I asked a person with an Apple phone & it came with an email client already installed!
My Android type phone doesn’t have that pre-installed.

I also added my new gmail account to my Outlook on my desktop
so that it's easier to use the keyboard to write emails with it.

So - I can now write & receive emails on my mobile phone.

Next thing to install will be Skype.

My smartphone is not junk!
Thanks for your help.
I wondered why all my friends have gmail accounts now.

cheers
Bobby

I notice there is no  In Box in Gmail on my mobile but
there is using Outlook on my desktop.

Why is that?

There seems to be a bug in Gmail:

OK so - that's the 3rd  webmail account that I've tried which doesn't work properly.

Maybe I'll have to load an email client?

Now – a message from a friend  – is missing from my outlook on my desktop computer.
It was there 30 minutes ago.
It has synchronized with Gmail using IMAP  & his email reply is missing from “All mail” on my mobile too.
So – there are bugs with Gmail too.
It’s strange how that’s the 3rd webmail site I’ve tried in a row with bugs in it.

It means that even if I load an email client on my smart phone that
It will be affected by that same bug.

Oh dear - it's strange how a smart phone can do 1000 or more
smart applications but it can't get the most fundamental thing -
an email system working properly.
