I remember when I was a kid most fruit tasted sweet unlike today where most taste bland.

Was it my childhood senses or what is that fruit was grown on the plant..???

No Ajax as a general rule strawberries are mostly lost their taste- sometimes  there are exceptions- as cods said though if you can pay a bit more it pays off in taste- growing your own is the way to go I guess in hanging baskets or buying from markets ( the small ones are sweeter) Mikes got this

I was at a roadside shed buying strawberries yesterday, got three kilos.

The carpark was full of cars, the shed was buzzing with people.
The trays were being brought from the field and sorted in front of the customers.
These Vietnamese people knew how to pick strawberries, not too green, makes all the difference.

people flock there because they have a good product, you pay more but you get a great product.

The big strawbery growers that supply industrial fruit to supermarkets can not compete quality wise.

I think they pay piece rate for pickers and that means green fruit.

If its like stonefruit, the last couple of days on the tree makes all the difference.

I agree mike   I spend too much time cutting off the white bit....fruit wise we are being ripped off......taste and smell seem to be a thing of the past.

I also bought some strawberries from Woolies for $1.50 punnet.
There was a notice saying that it would be safe to eat strawberries now, but to still be cautious, and chop the fruit up.
I always have chopped strawberries up, then top with cream or icecream.
Sometimes both!
Why all those strawberries had to be dumped, when all they had to do was chop them up and make jam instead.
Unless there was a hygiene reason.

Does anyone remember some years back, when bottled drinks/products were tampered with, but since then, they have put extra security wrapping/closures.
