Not quite -
just the fact that the rioters would know that
it's martial law so they could be shot would clear the streets.  Wink

Remember the backbone we were discussing? C'mon Bobby, tell us what you really mean and stick to it, defend it.

Set,
martial law means that you can be shot on sight.
Sometimes it's the only way to restore law and order.

OK - what would be your solution?

Bobby, you never mentioned martial law until I called you on they should all be shot on sight and advised that may be messy. You never said by who, just that they should be. I suggested that they may instead be summarily hung on power poles to save on that unsightly mess of other forms of execution.

There was no prevarication in what should be done in your statement before I replied.

Set,
you created a strawman argument.
How the hell can you hang 1000s of rioters from lamp posts?
The police should go there with guns & start shooting.
You have to be practical.

So - what is your idea?

Install more lamp posts?

What do you call a thousand African rioters hanging from lamp posts?

Not enough lamp posts.... get with it here....

So you've given up on the constitutional and political reform you came here with to settle down here as just another SJW that wants to call names. Not saying One Arm is any better but in 12 months you have given away what you came with and turned into another sook.

I gave up on my constitutional and political reform because no one wants it. And frankly, there's no point in banging in my head against a wall. As I recall, you were quite silent on discussion about my reforms proposals.

Regarding the last part of your sentence and alluding to the comment that G made, I think it's important that I call him out on it. He often claims that he is not racist, yet makes racists comments about Aussie. You're welcome to call me an SJW for calling out someone who makes a racist comment about someone (let's be honest about his wife's ethnicity, which I considered out of bounds in an ethical sense); but I think I've shown common decency.

Good attempt at making it all my fault Bobby but I never said to shoot anyone. All I did was comment on your "shoot 'em all" theme and remember you didn't like shooting as it was too messy. I offered an alternative. You then tried to change what you meant for some spineless reason instead of sticking to your guns. I don't mind hearing your point of view, I want to hear it but when you are questioned on it your spine gets a little gelified. I want to hear your opinion, not your opinion filtered through a spine of cartilage.

It is true that I have moved to the Left slightly, Set, I won't deny that. Let me tell you why. Initially I was a conservative and held conservative views. This was because I was taken in by the so-called Intellectual dark web types like Ben Shapiro, Milo Yiannopoulos, Jordan Peterson, etc. These, and others, and their right wing views are very appealing to people, particularly to young men. This is because they provide simple answers to complex problems, and create an attractive message for young men about why women 'don't like them'. It's very easy to be taken into.

BUT, and not to sound like I've invented the wheel here, but things are often more complicated, and are not black and white. Let me give you an example: FD a few months ago raised the point about the high levels of inbreeding among Arabs, and attributed this to their plight and poverty. Now, it may be true (and this is where I differ from Leftists who aren't willing to engage in this debate) that there is a higher proportion of inbreeding in the Arab world, and that 'facts don't care about my feelings'; but the issue is that by pointing out this fact and assertively promoting it, the speaker is in a sense attempting to dehumanize a group of people. Now, I would in no way equivocate this statement to genocide, but dehumanization is ONE STEP toward to the road to genocide.

This is why I don't buy the whole 'facts don't care about your feelings'. We should be able to have a civil discourse in society where we can state facts WHILST AT THE SAME TIME not dehumanize other people. The plight of the Arab people is a very complex thing, and simply using inbreeding as the major reason is just attempting to simplify a problem that is very complex.

The same goes for refugees and our offshore detention facilities. It's very easy to say "we must focus on sustainability and infrastructure needs" whilst we torture innocent people and deprive them of rights. I'm all for having a discussion of numbers; but I think it's more important to resolve the issues of inhumanity AND THEN discuss numbers, sustainability, etc.

The rule is simple = people before profits; people before politics; and people before numbers.

I actually applaud your political shift, there should be more, go forth and evangelise. I may even find ground with you.

Why bother arguing facts. If close relative marriage and breeding within a culture is a fact, if the consequences of that fact is as true as we know it is and the practice of it, to close the circle, is dominant in one culture... We know it's a bad way to breed people, no-one would complain if it was European royalty, would they?

Don't try and protect people feelings, they might change.

The brief explanation of your leftist economic view(I would like to hear your conversion story), yeah, I'm mostly with that.

Sometimes the only way to get someone to the table is to protect their feelings. Most people, particularly on the Left won't engage with people who hold offensive views (I've experienced this personally). Offending people just makes people not want to engage with you, and then we're back to square one.

From a political standpoint, I won't vote for a candidate who offends me or those close to me. And I suspect that many people feel that way.

My economic standpoint is what I call somewhat libertarian, but I like to think I'm a sensible libertarian. My main gripe with libertarians is that they are too ideological and will pursue libertarianism at all cost, which is disastrous. The coercive institutions of government are necessary to ensure a well-functioning society. Whether we like it or not, we need government intervention in the allocation of economic resources, otherwise power will become concentrated in the hands of unaccountable elites. Industrialization and the global economy has made economic rights a priority, and the government has a legitimate role in ensuring these rights. This is where the ideological libertarians fall down - they support full political rights, but not necessarily economic rights.

No, I wouldn't call myself that. I'm simply saying that if a politician believes that gays will go to hell, a comment made by Israel Falau and supported by Cory Bernadi, that I'm not going to support him because I believe his opinion to be extremely offensive.

I'm not sure how that makes me a one-issue voter?? Maybe I'm missing something?? Care to elaborate??
