However, I'm starting to feel sorry for this guy - meth has completely destroyed his life.

.
he destroyed his own life, not the meth. Forget about apologising for him.

he is a typical  meth junkie who gives not a toss about anyone expect himself and what he wants, the biggest mistake made was in not treating him as the criminal he was and is and avoiding sending him to prison. I cannot believe he is still getting special treatment. Current WA law treats anyone in possession of more than 3 grams of meth as intent to sell or supply with correspondingly much higher penalties than for mere possession. My understanding is that the cops have gone soft on him and he has been charged with possession only despite having more than 4 times the amount. He has now progressed to being a dealer in meth, the lowest of scum, still getting special treatment.

Yeah, I think he was (allegedly) caught with 13 grams up his clacker.

I know of someone who dabbles in meth, and it's screwing her life up now.

I hadn't realised just how bad it is.

The dealers certainly are scum.

I'm not apologising for him.

I'm just feeling some sympathy, as it must be hard not seeing his kids.

If he cared about his kids he wouldnt be living the lifestyle he is. Everything is a prop for him now to be utilised for his own emotional or material gain, when they are at this stage the part of the personality that identifies with emotional attachment is destroyed.
