Thing is....I don't defend him. I do my bit to let you know about the Law.
Nope.
You are a fan... and ignorant or a liar or all 3. Close on all 3 counts when it comes to Palmer.
Close is not good enough. I am neither of the above. But......here's a tip.
I'll bet Townsville will be all over Clive if that Refinery is opened.
Everyone operates out of the hip pocket.
That refinery has buckleys of opening unless Clive baby spends millions on bringing it up to code.
It's settling ponds are an environmental catastrophe in the making .... they have already leaked in heavy rains & polluted nearby creeks causing fish kills.
The type of operation it is .... being left idle for as long as it it has would mean replacing much of the plant .... just like the aluminium refinery in Gladstone ... it can never be shut down for any length of time because it a continual process that will clog up once stopped.
BHP sold Yabulu to Palmer for a pittance & Clive milked it for all it was worth when the nickel price rose.
But he put SFA back into long term maintenance.
The deal was so good for him he even had us ... the tax payer throw him a bonus in tax write offs worth 13 times more than what he paid for Yabulu.
Being a shifty 2 faced bastrd doesn't make you a good bloke ...... his business ethics & character are reprehensible.
Quote:By buying the operation through three separate companies each owned by himself, he realised tax losses.
In the first year he received cash payments from the Tax Office of $138.6 million, perhaps the sweetest beer money of all.
