Well done to the Liberals in NSW. What a turn around after 16 years of Labor incompetence, neglect and corruption! Lets hope Foley and his Labor cronies stay in opposition a long time. Smiley Smiley Smiley

Easy to run a surplus when you sell off assets....John Howard and Peter Costello did it for a decade with very little to show for it apart from tax cuts!!!

hampers for new mothers.

seriously WTF?

how about some hampers for farmers wives in the drought.

the surplus should be used to build 2 or 3 new coal fired power stations to drive the economy forward

Another estimate for twelve months ahead that will not remotely be the same after twelve months......

When will you people get your minds around the reality that a 'budget' is not cash in the bank......???

It takes weapons grade stupidity to be proposing coal-fired power when cleaner and cheaper alternatives are available. The ROI for rooftop solar has come way down, wind backed by batteries is also viable for the grid, and coal-fired power emits a lot of pollution.

We can achieve 100% clean energy by 2050, so let's get on with it.

It's ridiculously easy for NSW to have a Budget surplus. Stamp duty revenues from inflated house prices are flowing in to the NSW treasury. They don't have to fund as much of their own infrastructure either because the Prime Minister, the former Prime Minister, the Treasurer, the former Treasurer, the Infrastructure Minister and the former Infrastructure Minister are all from NSW and NSW gets 40% of Federal infrastructure funding.

It's not for no reason that Turnbull's being called the Prime Minister for Sydney.

Gee aren't the lefties fowl on the NSW Libs success after all those dismal years of NSW Labor's appalling corruption and incompetence.

And Labor now has the proven failure the Goose as their "President"!!!! Talk about recycling their failures!!!

Augurs well for a Lib victory in Victoria after SA and Tassie then a BIG victory for the Libs in the Federal Election.

Newspoll has Malcolm leaping ahead of unelectable unpopular Bulldust Billy. But Newspoll keeps propping up Bulldust Billy so that he will still be there for the election.

Foley is already saying he'll cancel the Northern Beaches link and the South West metro.

Yep - do-nothing NSW Labor all over again.

Thanks for freaking nothing Liberals you sold the Electricity Grid for 16 plus billion dollars

So you deliver a miserable 3 billion dollar surplus

You have sold off everything in NSW  you can lay your hands on of Public Assetts

Your record is abysmal.  The Light Rail Construction is a joke because you lied about the cost of moving infrastructure by hundreds of millions, now the project is in the courts  and stagnant

You bought trains from Korea ignoring companies here and when they get here they won't fit on the Blue Mountains lines nor platforms or tunnels. Good work Gladys you were Transport Minister then and that one is on you

Commuters are paying 2 thousand a year on the M4 Motorway which used to be free

Can't wait for the next election so we can boot your sorry arse out of office

Lots of infrastructure was undocumented and thus wasn't factored into the project. Score one for utilities not following the rules. The project continues anyway.

The trains from Korea were far cheaper. As for them "not fitting", the plan was always to widen the tunnels so ALL train types could actually run up the Blue Mountains line.

Better than NSW Labor, who also bought new trains, found they couldn't fit and just went "ahh well, Mountains commuters can just keep using the old trains for another couple of decades, we'll stop the new trains at Springwood"

Thanks to Bob Carr's pork barreling cashback scheme. The same NSW Labor that introduced an additional congestion charge on the Harbour bridge that was finished in 1932.
