Whatever agreement had been reached and whether it sticks or not, that meeting is truly historic.

Why couldn't Obama get as far as this?

Kim’s gulags, public executions, and the planned starvation of his people have now all been legitimised on the world stage, thanks to Trump.

Why do you see this as worthy of praise, cods?

Because Fox NEws would have damned him for meeting with dictators?

Exactly. Simply by meeting him alone gives him the legitimacy he wanted for his regime - which is why all previous US Presidents have been avoiding him (and his forbears). But not only that, Trump talks about him in all these glowing terms and how confident he is of Kim doing the right thing (de facto giving him undeserved status as honourable and trustworthy). And that wasn't bad enough, he's given the only concession - to abandon war games with South Korea describing them as "provocative". He literally got nothing in return.

I'm beginning to wonder if Trump is the worst negotiator in all history.

I ask you a question, and you respond with personal abuse (with incorrect spelling).

Moreover, many, many people agree with me.

i.e. all Trump has done is legitimise a tin-pot dictator on the world stage.

Wake up cods, nothing has happened.

A one page (vague) document was signed, and two egomaniacs have had their moment in the sun.

umm Germany is a thriving democracy, one of the free-est countries in the world with an exemplary human rights record. Nazi Germany is gone. North Korea on the other hand is easily the most brutal and oppressive regime in the world today.

A better analogy would be to ask if we should turn our back on Nazi Germany - and the answer is yes - we did. We only stopped turning our backs on Germany (and Japan) after they abandoned despotism and embraced democracy. Trump should be trying to get something meaningful from Kim in terms of a commitment to human rights - even just a little bit. Thats what we should expect in return to NK opening up to the world.

There's been an impasse between Nth Korea and the west for nearly 70 years and nothing today has worked.

North Korea's ultimate paranoia is a forced regime change so dealing with them, like it or not is the only way forward.

Plus, now that Nth Korea has the theoretical capability of landing a nuke on USA, a new approach is required.

Hopefully this first step will lead somewhere for the betterment of conditions inside NK.

If sanctions are lifted and the sugar starts flowing in, that will happen.
