Peace
Thought
Peace is the concept of harmony and the absence of hostility. In a behavioral sense, peace is a lack of conflict and freedom from fear of violence between individuals and heterogeneous social groups. Wikipedia
can we not discuss fundamental issues..without the hostility??....
I think we do... the hostility if it that is all in cyberspace...we are not in the pub exchanging blows with our fists.....words dont leave bruises...
why cant we talk freely about any subject with the the name calling and "hostilities" is it part of our makeup that we have to get aggressive just to prove a point?..
if we ever expect to find world peace isnt this a good place to start.....
stop defending ourselves by attacking...
I am going to try.....mother Theresa eat your heart out!
Your opening post is reasonable, but I am not sure you are being realistic about politics in this situation. That is, where ideas and opinion are "published" anonymously. Posters are much freer to say what they think here, than they would be in public. And that is good, not for freedom of speech, but because whether you like it or not, its closer to honesty.
When you say words don't bruise, that is only true in the ethereal sense. If you look at the striking need to have the last word in an exchange, it seems some people simply cannot bear to be contradicted. It's as if their egos have been bruised. They have said what they believe, but they go on for bloody pages of rebuttals.
But then you talk about "getting aggressive." There is no aggression in telling someone they are full of $%1t. I think you are confusing personal insults with aggression. But, and its a big one, I am not going to be all Mr. Nice-Nice with people who are, by their design, or their own ignorance, in favour of taking away my freedom. Often, they are not aware of the ramifications of their own beliefs.
I have been around long enough to know when I have annoyed someone. I do it on purpose when I hold them, and their views, in contempt. I have been called a lot of things on this forum, and I don't give a rat's arse, because I don't believe in racism, dogma, superstition, reinvented history, cultural relativism, social engineering, and blind party-ideology.
