Pommies dream of barmy summer Aussie days.

Aussies dream of cool over-cast Pommie days.

Give me the cold, the over-cast, the wet over Hot Aussie Summer days, anytime.

It's come quickly. It was hot for so long, so the onset of winter is a shock. I've never had heating, but I'm thinking that I might need it if it gets any colder.

I prefer summer too but winter arrives every year and there is nothing we can do about it.

I have made something of a commitment to embrace winter and appreciate it's differences. Life's too short to spend half of it wishing it was summer.

Australia is HOT nearly 80% of the time.

Give me winter any day of the year.

You can put heaps of clothing on to get warm.
But you can only take so much off when its hot.

Only 'white collars' in air-conditioned offices like the heat.
Try working construction in 48C heat. It doesn't matter how much water you drink for hydration - when your core temperature starts rising and your fellow workers slow right down before dropping. Tongue

currently listening to SBS 'Chill' on the TV. Wink

Why do some idiots always think I follow Al Gore? Do whatever searches you like here, the sewer, my joint. You will not find me quoting Al Gore, supporting Al Gore or doing anything but saying I don’t follow him in any way.

The history of the development of climate science and the Greenhouse Effect goes all the way back to 1820.

In 1905 Arrhenius worked out the basics of the Greenhouse Effect, pretty much correctly—using pen and paper to do all the tedious calculations.

The story moves to the 1930s and an English engineer named Callendar trying to convince professional meteorologists that mankind’s CO2 emissions can indeed change the globe’s climate.

WWII happens and meteorological research gets a boost. The cold war brings a bigger boost: the navies and airforces need to know about the seas and the air. That CO2 (and CH4, N2O, O3. . .) can change the climate is obvious.

Calculations could be done by computers but only by slow ponderous mainframes. Models had to be simple.

1970s and personal computers: researchers could run data on their PCs not loading down the mainframes. And satellites enter the scene.

So from 1820 to the present day the science says that the globe is warming and it has indeed warmed by 1°C and will sooner rather than later reach 1.2°C again and go past it.

What the hell does Al Gore have to do with this?

On the other hand, two of the less intelligent members here, The Moronic and Booby do not follow the science. They follow what is clearly a lying charlatan going by the name of David Dubyne. I bet it is not his real name—he will disappear with his donations and advertising revenues from his YouTube channel.

Monk,
get your woolen long johns & other under garments ready.
have all woolen jumpers & a wind breaker over coat.
Get a good woolen beanie.
If you don't have the right mini ice age clothing you'll freeze in Tasmania.

Extreme cold? Melbourne? ahahahahahah

Try walking in the snow when it is -21C! Try walking about town when the maximum temperature is -7°C. Try walking in Germany in January at noon and every twig on the trees has snow on it.

Where my block is it doesn’t go below 0°C. Close to the coast, you see.

The trees I chose need just normal chill so even as the globe warms they will set fruit.

I have slept out at night on a mountain at -10°C
in a sleeping bag inside a small tent.

About -1.3C to Launceston.

Then add variations for local topography.

-9.3C Cradle Valley only 0.22 difference in Latitude.

Latitudes?
Melbourne is about 38 degrees South &
Hobart is closer to 43 degrees South.

That's another 5 degrees further South &  closer to Antarctica.
Also - Tassie is surrounded by the cold southern ocean.

Actually, Boobhead, waters around Tassie are warming, there are now fish in Tassie waters considered to be tropical fish. By so assidously suc letting Dubyne do your thinking you do not have a clue about what is actually happening.

Fact is, the waters are warmer and the some of the fish species there would not have been there say 20 years ago.

Same with Sydney—waters are warmer and fish species that used to be restricted to more northerly waters are now in NSW waters.

And those fish managed to move a long way south.

No, he's right. Many northern fish and other aquatic species have been found much further south these last 5 years. Urchins are ripping through the giant Kelp forests of Tasmania drastically - where they have never been before from the north. Look up 'Red Map' where people send in photos of species (while diving) and their location - which proves many 'warmer' species have moved far more south than previously.
It's really 'common' knowledge out there that there has been a major 'temperature' shift with southern waters being much warmer than usual.

Like I said - its 'common' knowledge and mostly for Divers, that many species from northern 'warmer' waters are now found 'often' far more south than usually recorded.
Seeing 'Tropical' fish as far south as Eden (Temperate and traditionally 'cold' water) and many other species.

The problems around Tasmanian waters is obvious due to much warmer temperatures.

I don't know what Lees, Agnes, Bobby are on about?

Tropical fish are now found in Sydney Harbor (not in Tasmanian waters) and fish from waters north of Tasmania are now found in Tasmanian waters. I remember reading something about this years ago, must do some searching see what the situation is now.

Only in India because they use two fingers.

At least a dog  can be excused for open defecation.

Dog rape is a serious problem in India and is taken more seriously than the rape of women:

Quote:
A couple of weeks back, a female puppy was raped and now, a guard from a Mumbai housing complex was found guilty of sodomising a dog. In this act of heinous canine brutality, this 41-year-old man, going by the name Ram Naresh, was noticed taking the canine into the loo with him and walking out after 6-7 minutes.

Oh dear

A search led locals to an inebriated Naresh. The neighbours asked the cabbie about the puppy and he allegedly told them that he had dumped it in Naraina Industrial area after having sex with it.

To be fair to our brown brothers, dog /fək/ing happens in other places too:

Joseph Hattey, a physicist at Michigan State University, is accused of performing bestiality with a basset hound named Flash.
