I know the road well, so I'm fine, but visitors find it terrifying, especially those with caravans and big campers.

I see that (90) sign at the apex.  A good example of why it is often advisable to to start long journeys early in the morning and find a nightly destination in the afternoon when there is still good daylight.  That road would be a lot more frightening on a dark night if I'd never driven it before and wasn't prepared, caravan or not.

About time for me to say thanks for the friendly chat and sorry if I argued with you when I shouldn't have, and then didn't take the first hint.  Have a good night, Mr Grappler.

You, too.  Yes - it's scary at night... people drive off it often, especially people who don't know it... they get scared and freeze, and the last two were a small 4wd that ran into a drain on a bend and a Falcon that ran off the embankment of a raised section across farmland that was once swamp and still floods (so it's raised ten feet or so)... now it's Autumn/Winter and it fogs at dusk anyway.  Sad

Oh, Imrah - you need to get used to my wicked sense of humour..... a lot of what I put is not serious, but when I lapse into serious professorspeak, I am deadly serious...

People used to know what to expect when I turned up - white Jaguar - humour... black Daimler... serious.

Good morning and thank you.  Yesterday I was confused because it seemed as though someone with half a brain suddenly turned into a half-wit, and all the time I was replying to you there was a thought in the back of my mind telling me, "This can't be the same bloke."

All harmless when the day is over.  I refuse to go back and read over yesterday's posts because that would be telling my memory that it's not worth the neurons its written on.

Much of this first week here has taught me that the level of humour at this forum is quite primitive, so that might be why I missed your subtle wit.  Mothers who spend a long time surrounded by hoards of children sometimes make similar mistakes out of habit when confronted with the occasional grownup.

I'll take your advice and read some people's posts with more careful concentration than the average,.  Happy Thursday!

I would suggest Ye Grapplers example would be something that would occur as an extremely rare event

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

Have no problem with cyclists, providing they are not idiots who take up the whole road as some of them seem to take delight in doing.

Yes - agreed.  I particularly love the ones who double up and then swerve about while chatting, not paying attention - you are forced, as a driver, to hang back rather than just go around because they might suddenly swing out without warning.  Kids can be the worst since they often get so engrossed in their 'tricks' they forget about big, heavy, metal cars .... that go bang on the bike....

As for 'making a statement' about their 'rights' - better to be alive than a dead statement.

Won't be happening here in WA. Our useless road safety minister says so. Same as she won't do anything about the idiots using their mobile phones while driving epidemic.

I honestly don't know how she manages to keep her job.

Motorcycle number plates are nowhere near that size.
This is just being hysterical.

A simple thing like a number plate would help weed out the riders you say are bad examples.

Or is it that ALL cyclists are bad examples?

If they don't want plates - if the city bike couriers don't want numbers on their vests...... they must have something to hide......

**victory roll**

...

Mk IX, I think - vertical stabiliser extension, 20mm cannon, and engine compartment not big enough for a Griffon... four bladed prop....

Hmm - maybe a Mk. XIV - Spiteful tail...

A simple thing?  What about Christmas time?  Can you imagine every 3yo in the country passing a driving test before before they're allowed to unwrap their presents under the tree, because one of them is a bike?

It's not a simple thing at all.  It's another bureaucratic nightmare in the making.  Another grievous attack on human rights, because every pedestrian would need number plate riveted onto the backs of their heads by the same token.

Anyway, good morning fellows.  I hope you all had a nice weekend. I had a long one.
