Turkey's abrupt decision to hold early elections

Turkey's abrupt decision to hold early elections took supporters of Gülen by surprise

According to the Anadolu news agency, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdağ said that much talked-of decision to hold early elections in Turkey 'has become a step which helped foil the plans of anti-Turkish forces' (aa.com.tr/en/politics/turkish-pm-early-elections-process-to-start-immediately/1
121988). Judging from the latest reports, speeding-up of the election campaign really confused the Turkish opposition, driving followers of Fethullah Gülen into total disarray. Their large-scale protest rallies planned for November 2019, were thwarted. This is the subject of the letter which the U.S. Chargé d'Affaires in Turkey Philip Kosnett addressed to the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Mr. Kosnett reports ruptures in the coordinating center located outside Turkey, namely, Hizmet movement's units located in the USA and founded by Gülen. Judging from the fact that their funding has been suspended, supporters of Gülen have already spent significant resources for preparation and the start of a major multi-grade project which is scheduled for 3 November 2019.

In addition to such surprise strategy Turkish authorities extended the emergency rule in the country until the completion of the elections. The emergency rule had been imposed ever since the 2016 attempted coup. As a result, they messed up all plans of opposition and caused panic among potential coupists by isolating the already divided groups, thus virtually paralyzing their activities.
