One Nation withdraws support for company tax cuts
THE Federal Government’s company tax cuts plan appears to have been dealt a fatal blow by One Nation’s Pauline Hanson.
Ms Hanson, whose party has three Senate seats, says the Government has not been “upfront and honest” and has issued a long list of demands almost certain to sink the policy, The Australian reports.
“The whole fact is, if they’re serious about this, then start doing something about it now … This Government is talking about it six or eight years down the track. Well, that’s not good enough,” Ms Hanson said.
“The people in general don’t want it. It has not been well received. The Government has not been able to sell the package to the people and they haven’t cut through.”
Among the Senator’s demands are greater help for pensioners, a crackdown on tax avoidance by multinational companies and lower power prices.
The Turnbull Government has been negotiating with crossbench senators since February to push through the legislation, which would see the tax rate for all Australian businesses cut from 30 to 25 per cent, but they needed at least nine votes to push it through.
