The only change in diet needed during a cold is lower sugar.

Can I ask what the physiological thinking behind this is?

You can eat fruits and vegetables, which have a natural source of sugar different from the processed stuff we have in colas, etc.

Bacteria has a breeding ground and source of food to prolong their lifespan. Blood stream gets impeded with less blood flow and makes it a little more difficult to access areas of the body that is infected. Mind does not process as quickly the subroutines of countering a virus. It is more difficult to clear the lungs of mucous with a higher glucose level.

1. the common cold is not a bacteria its virus
2. Whilst this is true, its really only the case for prolonged and extremely high BSL (e.g. Type 2 DM).
3. Mind does what?
4. Not entirely sure thats the case when we are just referring to a cold.

Post. I did find something that pointed to huge amounts of glucose limiting cilia movement but the amounts were very high and seemed to be only present if you had an underlying bacterial infection.

Were you the guy that claimed that alcohol has no effect on killing viruses? 21 years of legally being able to drink alcohol, I have concluded that during a cold, you can kill off viruses *quicker* with a night of rum and colas.

The flow of blood through your veins get impeded by a more sugary blood flow. That leads to oxygen and blood having trouble accessing all parts of the body that would usually be accessed with a sugar free blood flow. Imagine how much more the body needs to work filtering and processing extraneous glucose.

And whilst the blood does not flow as easily with a higher sugar diet as does a sugar free diet, the brain needs to multitask even more with a less flow of free flowing blood making stress levels higher than usual. More stress strains the immune system, making it more difficult to function and kill off the virus.

Essentially what we have here is a range of quasintellectual sentences strung together.  I concede the point that high sugar levels in blood impedes flow, but unless you're an undiagnosed type 2 diabetic the actual difference is negligible. Additionally, your body already copes extremely well with changes in blood flow every time you exercise, so the effect in terms of stress is going to be negligible. Additionally, its long term stress through release of cortisol from the adrenal gland which causes immunosuppression, not the 2 days of stress you might have during a cold.

And as for your alcohol comment.

1. I don't think I said alcohol would have no effect, if anything it would make the problem worse.
2. So your concerned with lowering your blood sugar, but hey lets have rum and COKES. Clever.
