Gun ownership hasn't dropped. Someone is pulling your chain if they say they have.

Homocides involving firearms were on the decline well before 96. Don't swallow the bullshite from the howard lovers.

Its been shown over and over that there is a direct correlation between homicide, suicide  rates and levels of gun ownership
Quote:
The purpose of the present study is to examine the link between gun ownership rates and homicide rates. Using a very large cross-sectional survey dataset in order to obtain estimates for household-level gun ownership rates, and state-level data on homicides, the results indicate that gun ownership rates have a statistically significant and positive effect on the homicide rates at the 10% significance level. This result suggests that efforts to restrict access to firearms may reduce murders.

10% is somewhat risky. 5% is better. More than 10% is bilge.

"Significance levels are used to reject the null hypothesis that, for example, there is no correlation between variables, there is no difference between groups, or there is no change between treatments. A significance level of '0.05' is conventionally used in the social sciences, although probabilities as high as '0.10' as well as lower probabilities may also be used. Probabilities greater than '0.10' are rarely used. A significance level of '0.05', for example, indicates that there is a 5% probability that the results are due to chance. A significance level of '0.10' indicates a 10% probability that the results are due to chance. Thus, using significance levels above '0.10' is rather "risky", while using lower significance levels is "safer"."

Easy, there isn't
This is why many think you have little intellectual capacity. Its not an argument.

Well it wasn't an argument, just a statement of fact.

Anyone with a modicum of research capability can easily work that out too.

The number of firearm license holders and registered firearms has nearly doubled since 1996 while our population has increased from 18 to 24 million people.

We have 1,973,522 firearm license holders with 5,798,980 registered firearms in Australia.

In Australia more legally owned firearms has resulted in less firearm homicides and suicides, an inconvenient truth.

Firearm deaths were declining before our 1996 gun laws, in 1980 the firearm homicide rate was 0.8 per 100k it declined to 0.3 per 100K by 1995, what caused this pre existing decline in all firearm deaths before our 1996 gun laws?

Surely you are not trying to argue there are less homicides from reasons other than guns because there are less guns?

Because that would be a new level of stupid in this debate.

But not unprecedented.

Howard and the anti-gun hysterics argued that the gun laws were a complete success because there was a drop in gun suicides after '97, totally ignoring the fact that suicides had increased overall.

He has saved literally who knows how many lives by preventing us from going 'all the way with the U.S.A.'

When Howard was fighting to get those Gun Laws in, he faced enormous opposition from our own Gun Lobby and self interested Parties. But he fought on and with massive support from the Public  at large made his Gun Laws iron clad

Sorry Baron but that's just BS.

he did clean it up  for a while.... how many guns were taken off the  streets????... they would still be out there  if there hadnt been a buyback....

30.000 guns were handed in during the amnesty....as well..

come on these guns are never more....

there will always be loonies out there    and the more guns out there the more chance they will get their hands on one...

the fewer the harder it is...

Most of the 30000 guns handed in were not worth what govco paid for them.

Several people I know handed in their old guns and bought new guns.

I think if you check the records

There are probably more guns now than before the amnesty.

And one small note of interest
Wasn't at least one of the handed in guns used in a gun crime?
I remember reading about it, but can't for the life of me remember the details.

How many legal guns in Australia have been used in crime?

I'll bet the number is less than howards IS.

Seems strange -
they showed someone handing in a rifle on TV &
it was immediately crushed in a hydraulic press if front of them.

Funny how in Sweden and Finland

Every household has at least one gun

But DEATH by gun is lower than Australia.

howard  thought his gun laws would give him power.

Just as other despots have done in the past

Hitler, Mussolini  to name two

Then they proceeded to take over as despots do.

howard  thought he could do the same, but failed

The only good thing that howard  will ever do for the world is die

With his passing, the world will become a much better place.

Do you think it is just a coincidence when you read about Aussie drug addicts holding up a convenience store with a knife or machete and getting chased off, then read about an American drug addict killing someone or getting killed while holding up a convenience store with a gun?
