How did this arsehole get into oz

https://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/perth-80yearold-to-be-deported-afte...

An 80-year-old man who has served 25 years in a Perth jail for the murder of 14-year-old Sharon Lee Mason will be deported back to the UK, says WA Attorney-General John Quigley.

Arthur Boycott Greer was convicted of the crime that haunted Perth after the schoolgirl disappeared in 1983 on her way home to the Perth southern suburb of Mosman Park. Nearly a decade after her disappearance, Sharon’s body was discovered in 1992 by a bobcat operator carrying out earthworks behind a clothing shop formerly owned by Greer.

Greer had a long criminal record and was found guilty of the girl’s murder after two trials. But Greer always denied the prosecution’s case that Sharon had entered his shop looking for casual work.

This bloke should either never have been let into Australia, or should have been booted out after his first offence.

"How did this arsehole get into oz"

The same way as every other immigrant from the UK, I'm guessing.

I'm not sure why the question is being asked in the first place.

What circumstances would have stopped him from being allowed to enter Australia?

Probably nothing back before 1983. I can't get the link to work so I can't get any background. We were pretty relaxed about immigration back in the day. I'm just glad he's going.

What?

Relaxed about what?

He's an immigrant from the UK - why would that prevent him entering Australia?

What on Earth is the OP on about?

Surely he's not suggesting that immigration officers should have been able to look into the future and see that he was going to murder someone    Undecided

I have no idea who was an apologist for what.   Perhaps its a brain snap?  For perhaps miketrees thought that he had a long criminal history prior to coming to Australia, and got let in regardless?

And also, can someone confirm that back then you don't need a visa to come into Australia from England right?

Well if he had a prior record he wouldn't get in now. That's the point I was alluding to about our relaxed earlier immigration policies.

Who said he had a prior record before coming to Australia?

I haven't read that anywhere, and that's why I'm a little confused about the thread title.

What does the OP know about the murderer, that we don't know, that would have prevented him from being able to enter Australia?

I still don't get it.

I'm not saying he had a prior. He might have. What I'm saying is that Australia had a very relaxed immigration policy in the past. Here's a story- my mate was a antique dealer for years and he purchased a full SS uniform (Hitler Youth dagger and all) from a former SS soldier who lived in Fairfield Sydney. Now if he could get out here anybody could. This is why we are having such a bad Lebbo problem.

BRITAIN SENDS 'CRIMINALS' TO AUSTRALIA
...since 1788.

Australians take 'PRIDE' in their 'criminal' past.
(take pride in murder, etc).

Without a time machine, how are you supposed to know that someone WILL commit a crime ahead of time especially without a criminal record?
