Fake refugees

This is why we don't want boat arrivals but the lovies think that anyone brown on a boat MUST be a refugee.

All refugees must be selected from the source or neighboring countries.

Indonesian police bust fake Rohingya people-smuggling network with AFP help

Indonesian police say they have worked with the Australian Federal Police to unravel a people-smuggling network that was aimed at bringing in fake Rohingya refugees to Australia.

The revelation comes as real Rohingya refugees took to the water to escape persecution in Myanmar and crowded camps over the border in Bangladesh.

Police in Indonesia have named three suspects, including a Rohingya man, as the organisers of a complex scheme to illegally bring people to Australia.

The director of general crime with Indonesia's national police said people smugglers organised fake papers for six Bangladeshi men who were initially brought by speedboat from Malaysia.

After a long journey through Kalimantan and Java they were eventually smuggled to the Papuan port of Merauke because it was closest to Australia.

The organisers then planned to hire a local fishing boat to bring the men to the Australian mainland.

Communities in Indonesia helped the men in their journey because they claimed to be fellow Muslim Rohingya fleeing persecution in Myanmar.

Police said sympathetic members of one Indonesian community even raised money to buy plane tickets for the men to fly to Merauke.

So... say ... a person who has been forced to go 'underground' in his own nation, thus is driven from normal life in that nation .. cannot be a refugee? You have to first get past the barbed wire and machine guns at the gate?

A person living in a nation may approach a foreign Embassy for refugee status..... citing government oppression etc..... most such are unfortunately turned away and referred to the 'UN' system or similar - which often employs locals and is thus full of leaks when it comes to security and even can be filled with government 'plants' .......

Damned hard work to get out of a vile nation....

I know you meant well - just expanding on the fund of knowledge here... I've studied refugee issues at Uni... I've advised Iranians in-country how to get out... if they can... not easy when even approaching an Embassy puts you in someone's sights... and embassies will not just take you in and spirit you away on a midnight flight to Ramstein on your way to the West and safety...

Apart from trolling, I can't see the purpose of this thread.

First of all, I have never heard anyone say that anyone brown on a boat must be a refugee.

Secondly, if these people aren't refugees then the system is working.

Are you suggesting that anyone brown on a boat is not a refugee?

If you are, you are demonstrably wrong (I suspect you knew that already, though).
