That is totally offensive.
Not to diminish the importance of nurses, police officers and firefighters, but being a solider has more demands placed on a person than those other jobs. Soldiers are away from their families, and sometimes have to serve in terrible conditions.
You left out
They are abused by the grubberment
Not supported when injured
Underpaid
And never given the respect they deserve.
Spot on... eight suicides this year to date from Veterans of recent conflicts... hopeless under-funding for mental health and virtually nothing for placing Veterans back in the workforce where they continue to have a higher rate of unemployment than all but young kids... no assistance for family breakdowns as a result of all of the above ...
They get respect from one another... and that's about all... much as the 'civvies' may want to show it on special occasions.... the most serious lack is in government and its approach to those it sends in harm's way...
'Every man on this beach deserves a Purple Heart' - US Army doctor on Omaha Beach - D-Day.
'Every man here deserves TPI' - Sgt Eddie Schultz(RIP), 7RAR and founding member of VVAA.
Politicians get a guaranteed income for life after leaving 'service' which involves ZERO risk - why is there no guaranteed income for life for Returned Veterans who've served mightily and often suffered as a result in a high risk environment?
Instead the Veterans need to beg and 'play the game' with p-spikes and trick cyclists to get a chance at a Pension..... easier for a Veteran to get a Centrelink DSP than it is to get a Service Pension... with the same documentation..... I know - I've been there....
