ABC fact check for you - slippery, twisty, Bwianesque.
What Hanson said: "These ones that are there have
not proven themselves to be genuine refugees to warrant them coming to Australia," Senator Hanson said.
What the ABC wanted to hear and 'fact checked':
The overwhelming majority of asylum seekers currently on Nauru
have been deemed to be refugees by the Nauruan Government in accordance with international law and the United Nations refugee convention.
She is absolutely correct, they were deemed, not proven to be refugees. Deemed means there was no evidence to prove or refute their claims so they were simply 'deemed'. The ABC 'farce checker' doesn't explain, natuarally, what deeming in these circumstances means. The word occurs only once, when they deliberately misinterpret and misrepresent Hanson.
