No reason' for skyrocketing Brisbane fuel prices   Sad

3:56pm Apr 20, 2018
Nine News.com

A costly bowser battle has Brisbane drivers fuming, with prices at many petrol stations soaring to more than $1.50 per litre.

Prices today hit a three-year high, surging up to $1.56 in parts of the river city.

Kenmore was this morning home to the most expensive petrol, charging motorists $1.56 for Unleaded E10, $1.76 for Premium.   Sad

"It's just unacceptable there was no good reason for this increase and unfortunately more service stations are going up to that high price," Renee Smith from the RACQ said.

But at Ipswich, the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast prices haven't budged.

In those areas, petrol is up to 20 cents cheaper, still sitting at $1.30 per litre on average.

The cheapest, at Labrador, is $1.26.

"They're having a party at the expense of Brisbane motorists," Fuel Trac's Geoff Trotter said.

There is talk of unrest in Syria putting pressure on oil prices, however experts say the increases, if any, wouldn’t come in for a few more weeks.

Experts and motoring groups believe the Brisbane market needs more competition.

They're calling on the state government to introduce real-time price monitoring.

But Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said it could have the opposite effect.

"We don't want to see the administration of such a scheme being passed on to petrol prices and to commuters," she said.

But in New South Wales the measure has led to a price drop.

Sydneysiders are now able to monitor prices via an app controlled by the government.

"The power is now in the hands of motorists to get in their car, find those cheap servos, drive right by those expensive ones and get some relief on the family budget," the NRMA's Peter Khoury said.

Mr Trotter wants the government to go even further.

"Cap the wholesale and retail margin at 20 cents a litre so the maximum pump price in Brisbane today would be $1.42," he said.

The advice is to fill up sooner rather than later, with fears other stations offering cheaper fuel will jack up prices and copy their counterparts.

If the prices had anything to do with syria then why would it be so localised in australia?

Wow! Metropolitan suburbanite people must hop around with their pockets ablaze at the high prices that they have to pay for petrol.

The price of fuel has not gone up nor down (much) in the last 2 and a bit months.
