Absolutely, neither do the security guards have the power to detain you, they are for all legal requirements a person just like you, they may call the police but they can not lay a hand on you to detain you. I have refused at times when I thought it was uncalled for, I usually oblige if it is polite.

Take it easy on Karnal. The papers have been reporting a huge upsurge in anti-social behaviour, harassment, and criminality in his beloved multicultural-multiracial hometown suburb of Sydney's Granville. The police have been making regular 'sweeps' of the place to cull the streets and the railway area of high volumes of 'Undesirables'.
