I understand where you are coming from.
But consider this.
The men and women serving today, or indeed in the past, could have been called upon to risk their lives for the true protection and serving of our country.
The fact that they may not have is irrelevant, they pledged their lives and that is enough for me.
Well said, but for me the greatest Australian heroes are the humble workers who pay their taxes, year in year out, and keep Australia functioning and on the move. The Garbo who collects my rubbish in the dark of the pre-dawn is a hero to me as I lie there in my comfortable bed.
These are the unsung glue bonding our society together, for without them society as we know it would dissapear.
But hero's they are not.
True heros are the ones who are there when everyone else runs away
True heros don't think about the act, they simply do what is required of them to save others or fight evil.
True heros pledge their lives to fight for our country, and even if they are never called upon to do so, the pledge remains.
Above all, heros do not see themselves as heros.
The word hero is thrown abot too much today
Sports people
Disabled people
Even politicians
They do not TRUELY put their lives on the line
They simply gamble that they will beat the odds they themselves set
