Cwlth Games closing fiasco Qld - pathetic

Good on you Peter Beattie you know as much about running the Commonwealth Games as you know about the Cronulla SHARKS; are you useless at everything?

Last night's closing of the Commonwealth Games in which the competing athletes were not featured was farcical

By half way through the ceremony much of the attending audience had left

Who gives a continental about singers. This was supposed to be a celebration of the competition and friendship of the athletes

They were shut out of the telecast

An utter disgrace, hang your heads in shame Queensland

The kangaroo is one tuff MF animal.....hence it is our sporting flag. Aussies are tough and we love beating opposition teams.

Well he has has the runs on the board as one of the top 5 incompetent QLD premiers, so no-one should have expected much more than disasters followed by apologies from him, something were Queenslanders are well used to.

Well, our family wanted to go to the commonwealth games. But it was simply too expensive:
- Air fair - > $600 one way from Melbourne each person on economy
- Some Accommodation charges 7 to 800 a day, when they usually cost 250 to 350.
And hence we decided not to go.

I have also heard from family friends who live on the gold coast, that locals were told to keep away from the game venues. I thought that was ridiculous. It should had been welcoming to everyone. And plus, all those empty seats that they cant sell, they should have just give it away for free the last minute to the locals. Since they are the ones who are mostly effected by the games.

And no parade for athletes during the closing ceremony, but 7 LONG speeches by boring politicians? Now that's just bad.

Why should QLDers hang their heads in shame?

Many are embarrassed at the poor presentation & content of the Opening & Closing ceremonies.

Many are angry at the disruptions caused to peopel going about their daily lives.

Many businesses have been adversely financially affected by the lack of patronage all over the coast because people were advised to stay away & off the roads.

But please leave the blame squarely in the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee & Peter Beatties hands.

As I heard on Ray Hadleys morning radio show from a Gold Coast woman ...... the only thing Beattie became professionally good at in the 9 years he was Premier of QLD was "apologising" for the stuff ups, saying it will be fixed & promising for it not to happen again.

The exact same thing he's done after this cockup.

Gawd help the NRL.

He needs to disappear into the twilight/background.

"I think that is some of the choice they made. They said 'right, we know we are going to have a strong lead-in in ratings from the Gold Medal Group two-hour special at 4:00pm. It will lead into our news, we will have a strong news, we have had that all the way through the Commonwealth Games. We will lead straight out of that into MKR, we will revive the ratings of MKR'," he said.
