Yes, I am sure he will do well.    I am very glad Vice Admiral Ray Griggs did not get the appointment, even though he was VCDF.    I would say there will be quite a few celebratory drinks in Wardrooms around the country celebrating his non-appointment.    I would hope he would move on and the sooner the better for all concerned in Navy

It was on the cards.  Campbell knows how to play the Politicians and he is liked by the Pollies, being "known" to them from his previous command.

Appears one now has to come from the "Special Forces" stable to get a Guernsey in Higher Command in the ADF.   Roll Eyes

We still have them in Navy, mainly on the Patrol Boats, but here is one that caused a bit of strife in it's day

I used to wear a smiley face instead of my squadron patch, my bosses didn't like that either.  Smiley

Doesn't look to me like it could be classified as an 'arrogant' death symbol', Vic.  My units have had various "joke" flashes, unit symbols, mascots when on Exercise.   They are intended for fun and are not terrifying IMO.   This order by the incoming CDF is intended to stop "stupidity creep" from the "Special Forces" and the more gung-ho diggers who believe acting like American cowboys is a good thing.   I've seen an RSM do his block at a detachment of APC crew who believed that wearing chromed helmets and cowboy hats was a good idea on one exercise.  If it isn't in the Dress Manual, hasn't been OK'ed in Routine or Standing Orders, it isn't kosher IMO and deserves to be binned.   Most "joke" flashes, unit symbols, mascosts are OK'ed by the authorities.   Where would we be without the Red Roosters, Elephants and so on, often placed on Army vehicles when visiting certain units?   We'd be poorer for it.   Roll Eyes

Aye - the Campbell - most fractious of the Heeghlant clans...

Sold his soul for a good gig in the politically correct world we now live in...

Wait until the casualty lists come in from The Next One....

Officers are not necessarily 'Special Forces' - they are adjuncts and organisers of LOC and supplies and pretend to be in command from 5,000 feet (or more depending on rank)... with the exception of a few... but it's a nice blip on your record... you ever see a 'Special forces Officer' in direct combat?

It's a career path.... nothing to do with merit....
