Apology by Steve Smith

Was it enough?
For mine, I say yes of course. He need not have even taken it all to heart so much.

Recognising and admitting to a mistake is key to forgiveness.
No recognition, no admission = No forgiveness.

I'm sure that most of us have encountered assholes that can never take a backwards step and admit to a mistake. Usually, they just go by the wayside in your life and are easily forgotten.

The culture of international cricket in which they play should also be taken into consideration.
Ball tampering, pitch doctoring, etc. will still go on in order to gain some advantage.

We expect higher values here, and rightly so that the penalties should reflect what we expect of our sportspeople.
It doesn't matter if England players suck on barley sugars to gain an unnatural shine on the ball, or India and Pakistan doctor the pitches to suit their bowlers, or if a SA bowler puts a zipper on his pocket to rough the ball ..etc. We have our standards that we need to uphold here.

I hope that they can suck down their penalty and move on.
Warne was banned for a year, and that's pretty much forgotten. He's remembered for his brilliant skill and not for being a drug cheat.

I'm sure that Smith can overcome this. Probably Bancroft, but not so sure about Warner.

I don't think an apology though the right thing to do matters.

For me the point is that they just do not get it, if they had it could never have happened.

Cricket is a game like Golf played with honesty and integrity, that is the reason that the Captain Australia is a position of note.

The game has sadly been tending in this direction for many decades.

Yes - that's what they're all crying about. Guarranteed!

Hanse Cronje says "But I didn't mean to take the moneyyyyy!"

This was no 'mistake'. Other nations have been slammed for doing 'tampering' - so its not like these bozos had no 'precedence' to learn from. They knew exactly what they were doing and they were all in on it - the whole Team. They all ...took the money.

Poms-bodyline
South Africans-not letting blacks play in the national team for five decades, match fixing, ball tampering, the concerted denigration of a touring players wife
Indians-match fixing, racial abuse
Poms-body line
Pakistanis-match fixing, terror threats against cricketers
West Indians-match fixing
Poms-body line
New Zealanders-match fixing, being boring
Bangladesh-terror threats against cricket teams
Zimbabwe-terror threats against cricket teams
Sri Lanka-terror threats against cricket teams
Australia-ball tampering, receiving money from book makers, utilising an unusual albeit legal delivery to win a match, the only team (  Wink) to sledge
Poms-body line
Villians...we're the cleanskins of international cricket.

Yes - and its 'all of the above' that Clarke/Smith era focused on 'bettering'.
Well, they may have achieved that.

Cry Cry "I'm sorry" (I'm not getting any more money? Huh)

I figure Smith cried because he was caught out and was made to feel like a child again. There was that teenager mindset that came to the forefront of his apology. The fact that Smith is something like 29 this year and has copped so much criticism that the pressure was too much. The fact that his family could come under pressure from the fallout of the scandal. That would be enough to hurt anyone. The money issues would not be a consideration to Smith at this stage. It will come to his notice. But not at this time.

Warner does not seem to care and is probably putting on an act.
