Disadvantaged in what way?

Tell me, how have they suddenly become 'disadvantaged', when they lived 40,000 years pretty well.
Unless its because they were kicked off land that was taken from them?

Or is it something more sinister?
Are they disadvantaged for lack of a Christian God?
Or a Political representative?
Or a City lifestyle made in China?

Yep!
99.8% of that $130b' is spent on white people 'administering' it and 'recycling' it back into the Political industry.

If not - then white people cough up the money in Australia to the blacks like white men cough up their women to the blacks in USA. Grin

So the bureaucratic, political, admin 'Abos' get the money, while the 'disadvanted' ones get 'what'?

Or maybe that's it - by getting paid to become bureaucratic, political, admins like the ones who pay them ...they are no longer 'disadvantaged'?  Huh

Apparently not being a bureaucratic, political, admin ...is a 'disadvantage'  Wink

So true.
There is more than one right answer and yes, many of them create their own disadvantage in a world that can give them so much more than walking-about in a circle on an island wondering what else is there to do.

Disadvantaged because the federal and state governments have determined that these people are unemployable. Therefore, the welfare funding for these people who are identified as aboriginal is much higher than non-aboriginal people... on average. When aboriginal people are not required to look for work, they don't bother. They get lazy, and then bored. It is why the drinking becomes a problem. Then discipline gets ignored. Eventually, you see another generation come along that witnesses and repeats their parents' behaviour. Some are born to alcoholic and teenaged mothers.

Along come the social justice warriors, who then determine that the reason why aborigines are statistically worse off than non-aboriginal is due to aborigines being witness to Captain Cook's landing. This has allegedly caused some massive psychological impact on ALL aborigines to the point that it can be traced as the reason for just about ALL their problems.

There is nothing disadvantaging about being aboriginal these days. Has not been an issue for over 30 years.

The government should not be providing the same services for a thousand people living in the back of nowhere as a hundred thousand people living on the fringe of Australia's biggest city. Also, worth considering, is the value of council spending. When the toffs on the North Shore spend thousands and thousands on rates per year, and the good people of Charbourg and West Daly spend say, f.u.c.k all, one wouldn't expect the same level of service.

I dont know about the others but I used to live near cherbourg. There is no alcohol allowed there (cause of howard) and so the few drinkers go and stay in murgon to drink (sleeping in the streets pretty much). The children at cherbourg only get minimal education by someone that goes there about twice a week for a few hours. There is no employment in the area so not much hope of anyone getting a job and none of them can afford to move to a place where there are jobs.

There are share rooms in Brisbane going for under $150 a week. A single person on rental assistane receives @$650 a fortnight. Three hundred and fifty dollars a fortnight isn't a great amount to live on but it can definitely support someone until they get on their feet.

Its not as easy as that for them though. Their culture is to all live together and they arent educated very well. How would they get these "share rooms" anyway? From memory heaps of ppl apply for each one. If they live a long way away and have no transport they arent going to be able to even get a foot in the door.

Also - not sure what you mean by "share rooms" but that sounds a bit cheap. I think even the students share accomadation starts around 180 and you have to be a student. Boarding houses (if you can find one nowadays) start around 250.

Spent two minutes on 'flatmates'. Share accommodation in New Farm; seven minutes bus ride from Brisbane CBD. Ad says 'anyone welcome'. A hundred and fifty dollars a week which includes bills. The ad also says there is no bond. As for the rest; life is about choices, Spot. Sit down in the dirt in Charbourg so you can be with your cousins or get off your a.r.s.e and make something of you life.

Doesn't living the traditional way of life mean living out in the bush. Away from modernity? Away from white culture  and all it brings. What do they want? What do you want?

The government should be providing basic services no matter where you live. A town of a thousand people would not be expecting a McDonalds or whatever other unnecessary rubbish we see in large towns and bigger. But a hospital, ambulance service, police, facilities for emergency services, etc., should be within 100km of anywhere.

But I guess that was not what you meant. People living in isolation should make the effort to travel the distance to get the things they need. Not have supermarkets built for isolated people's convenience.

I work about 20 hours a week and get Centrelink. I think by the end of the fortnight, the combined income is something like $800 to $900 a fortnight. My rent is only $110 a week, due to the fact that relatives own the house I reside. If I did not have a job, I would really struggle for money on $650 a fortnight, though I have gone 6 months on that payment in the year 2008. It is about 5 months until my rego is due, but I am starting to wonder where I am going to save the money to pay that. #firstworldproblems

I agree with you, though. People need to tough it out and get on with their lives by lifting themselves out of their own problems.

They get taken there from their bush homes. Not many left out there now because they have been put in these "communities".

What do I want? I havent really thought about it but I would rather they were allowed back on their own land to live as they want. Most aboriginals I have met from tribes didnt even want their dole money. They just left it in the bank building up. This was aboriginals up north 20 years ago. Dont know whats happening now.

You can't build a shopping centre for 40 people. If you live in isolated communities then you miss out on things. That applies to white people also.
