Eating Meat
Mar 24th, 2018 at 1:30pm

Saw something on TV last night about vegetarianism, and it got me to thinking.

Why is it that conservative men (mainly) go off their nuts when someone mentions the word 'vegetarianism'?

I'm not talking about people saying to them "You must not eat meat - stop it right now!".

I'm talking about just the mere mention of the word.

For example, at a BBQ: "Would you like a piece of steak?".

"No thanks, I don't eat meat".

"WHAT! - you don't eat meat? What's wrong with you?"

"Nothing, I just prefer to not eat meat."

"So what are you saying - you're better than me or something?".

"No. I just don't eat meat".

"I bet you wear leather shoes, though, don't you?".

And so it goes.

Why do they get so aggressive?

It's like something snaps in their brains.

It's something that's interested me for many years.

Yeah. I couldnt eat meat for several years when I was sick and I noticed that. Also I know someone who was vegetarian for 30 years then began eating meat again and - well they are like an ex-smoker (the bad kind).

It's truly an extraordinary phenomenon.

They immediately get very aggressive.

Red face, raised voice, aggressive stance.

And like I say, not because people are harassing them to stop eating meat - it's just the mere mention of the word 'vegetarian' or 'vegan'.

I considered doing a thesis on it once.

So how many "conservative" men have become aggressive in your experience when vegetarianism is mentioned?

Dozens.

And many other people have told me of similar experiences.

Why do you get so aggressive at the mention of that word?

I am genuinely curious.

Some serious input would be nice.

Off-topic now, but in a similar vein ...

Sometimes, people will ask me "have you got a ticket in Saturday's Lotto draw?".

I always say, "no - I don't gamble".

Same reaction - they go nuts.

"It's not gambling!!!".   Angry

Sure, laying out money for absolutely nothing in exchange except the chance of winning more money isn't gambling   Roll Eyes

Anyway, back to the aggressive meat eaters: why does the word 'vegetarian' get their blood boiling?
