Labor likely to win Batman by-election
Mar 17th, 2018 at 8:10pm

Too early to call, but there has been a small swing to Labor in the Labor-Greens contest.

Labor Ged Kearney 31,185 53.5% +2.4%
Greens Alex Bhathal 27,140 46.5% -2.4%

The Greens should have chosen a better candidate.

My goodness, if the Greens can't even win this seat where will they win other than Melbourne? I actually think that if Labor chose a reall good candidate they could win back Melbourne. IMO they have given up on that seat too easily. Remember that Lindsay Tanner held that seat very safely prior to 2010.

This by-election was held because the former member David Feeney resigned from parliament after being unable to locate documentation that he had renounced his inherited UK citizenship.

Others may be in the same position. Can Tony Abbott produce his documentation to prove he renounced his citizenship by birth? His Form R?

C'mon, it's obvious. Robin came up with the name.

He has produced a letter from the Home Office that he did renounce.  The original Form has been covered up by Abbott under FOI.......and I suspect that is because he did not sign it himself, and Mummy who was still changeing his nappies even when he was in his 20s, and probably even now.....forged his signature on the document.

True. I couldn't really care less whether Labor won it or the Greens won it. They're pretty much the same thing, Labor may be slightly less bad. I wouldn't say better but less bad. And it's just always good to see the anti-Australian Greens lose and if they can't even get Batman they have no chance of ever getting more than Melbourne.
