Someone said we could not judge a person's Aboriginality on their skin colour.  Why isn't that applied in the matter of Pascoe?  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Yes.  Unfortunate IMO.

Anzac Day parade bans children under 12 from marching over insurance issue

Have you never marched in a capitol city ANZAC day with at least 4 bands playing different tunes some playing at different beats and all the while trying to remain in step?

Absolute fkken shamozzle.

But it is a long standing traditional shamozzle.

And that is the point.  It is traditional and the RSL has decided to ditch them without consultation.

Now, I wonder what would happen if a band got together to form a marching unit and played their instruments at the same time?   Where would the RSL go then, I wonder?   Roll Eyes

We ll the tradition of all the uniformed troops being out of step and marching like a 10 kilometre accordion would come back.

Im not fussed either way,

However, the only people who have a right to march on ANZAC Day are:

1. The Old and Bold,

2. The currently serving

3. The ex-service members

Everyone else is optional.

Military should stick to playing with weapons.

Leave the music to the Music industry.

One little kid on street during an Anzac march:
"Daddy - did they scare off the enemy with the sound of Bagpipes?"   Grin Grin

Yep - I'm a crap Troll. Never do as good as the others.
That's why I never bother much trying to be a Troll.
So I don't quite know what you're on about?
Maybe you should quit writing Forums with intellectual people and go back to playing with your soldiers ("Boom, boom, kapow, rat-atat-tat, etc") you know - 'Follow orders' because you can't think for yourself?  Huh

Take a look at the Political and Military Industries of the World, their days are numbered. Death is at their door. They've gone as far as they can, beyond destroying the whole bloody world along with themselves.
By the time they 'win their war', the rest of the World will have moved on and left them behind ...in the 'past' where they belong.

YOU'RE OLD, SOLDIER BOY.

I have the deepest respect for returned soldiers- my partner had a 13 year deployment in Bosnia and Afghanistan in the military and the horrors of war are nothing to laugh at or about- that one day of the year is their rememberance  day- it should respected  on every level

Whilst removing the bands, vintage cars and not allowing children to march may outrage some, I am more "outraged" that the RSL still has a major part to do with this.     I realise the RSL is supposed to be the Organisation that looks after Veterans but looking at circumstances in QLD, NSW, VIC, SA and also I find, TAS where Directors, Presidents and a host of Management Staff have helped themselves to the RSL Coffers to fund their own lifestyle, I believe the RSL should just be allowed to whither and die.

Last year, over 84 Veterans committed suicide, veterans are living rough on the street, RSL Age Care centres are running broke and there is little to no help from this Organisation because the cry is that "there is no funds available"

The RSL has lost it's right to represent Veterans - I hate to admit this, but even DVA are now doing a better job - and the RSL is no longer a driving force in anything to do with the Services.     The RSL should lose its charity status, rename itself to something else that is not affiliated with anything to do with Defence and Veterans and just become a social club paying taxes and fees like all other pubs, clubs and hotels.         The Government could then feed that money back into Defence care and look after Veterans.

I think the RSL dropped the ball way back with the Viet Nam Vets and I remember even in my time, being told as a young Airman that I was not allowed in the Wagga RSL.

There are quite a few organisations around the place now looking after the young Diggers and you are right the RSL has maybe not been there to help when they really need. They could do better, but they need to clean up their own mess before they can help anyone else.

The RSL blotted it's copybook over it's treatment of the Vietnam Veterans.   However, I've seen one RSL branch which was destroyed by the Vietnam Veterans after they took it over.  It cuts both ways, neither side has many bouquets they can hold IMHO.

I have never liked the RSL because of it's (usually) reactionary leadership.  I've never been a member nor do I ever think I will be.   It is an organisation which is slowly dying off as it's membership ages and they die off.

Can't agree, Vic - it just needs a few good men and women to take over the reins, men and women of honour.

For the others - I went to an RSL with my father - a WW II Vet - and was told that I might not be allowed in.... I was seven months out of a combat posting....

As for those robbing the till - they should be hung.

Why is it that the Military need to rely on Politics, Entertainment venues and other 'non-military' efforts to ...look after them?
Can't the Military look after their own?

Hell, shouldn't the 'green' Military be out helping the Conservationists protect the animals of the world from annihilation ...rather than 'protect' Politics & Religion???

Australian Military sounds like Cops in green outfits, more like it.

It is the duty and care of the government to 'look after the military' - they promised as such in the contract.

Go stand a watch - then we'll talk....

In QLD anyway I think the RSL lost touch when pokies where allowed, they used to be all run by volunteers with the old diggers serving the beer  and the Ladies making a good cheep meal in a little besser block building, now the front entrances cost more than the old buildings and not a vet in sight, just a pub with a 6pm recording.....

The Military run completely under the Orders of the Government of the day.    If the Government of the Day want them to appear at a footy match or in a performance of the Rocky Horror Show, they do it.   The only "thing" the Military depend on is that if they are injured doing the orders of the Government of the Day, they will be financially and medically looked after - the same as any other employee expects
