The phrase "pride cometh before a fall" came into my head this morning for no apparent reason.
Is that a biblical phrase?

I think it's wrong anyway. Pride really comes after a fall, if you pick yourself up and get on with it.

I've had few things to be proud about in my life -

-some good music arrangements,
- some skilful tax work,
-a notable victory before the old Administrative Appeals Tribunal, knocking over two young guns from the tax office (my "Penge Bungalow Murders without a leader" as per Rumpole)
- some good teaching
- getting the better of trees that had to come down
Nothing much really, but none of it preceded a fall that I remember.

But if I go back to some of all the bad things I did as an angry young man, which I felt no pride for, they probably did precede a fall.

So I don't think that particular piece of ancient wisdom really holds up.
