Yes of course not to worry its only 1000 jobs.  Although that's only the start of it.  Now who was it that said, jobs and growth?.   Sad

Yes of course not worry about the NAB's future ?
Plenty of other banks won't be missed ?

And of course no company should ever lay off people no matter what ?

No doubt the CEO will get a pay rise for hatching up this ingenious plan of retrenching staff Cheesy LOL

Of course he will. He will get the same output for less labour input. An increase in labour productivity. The source of all wages growth. Fukkwit.

Only up to a certain point - after that you run out of people to sack, and thus increase the numbers who can't use your services due to lack of income...

Now if the fruits of technology were shared around more - via a tax regime or whatever with carefully defined and isolated funding..... not the perpetual slush fund titled 'consolidated revenue'....

Grapples, that is just so dumb. Haven't the time right now. Hopefully you'll think about what you wrote and see a penny drop.

And what is your point ?

what a genius to think up a plan to cut costs by retrenching people. Definitely worth another 1 mill in bonuses Cheesy LOL

Nails, I'll let you in on a secret. Job losses due to technology and ultimately productivity gains have been going on since a caveman first put a wheel on a cart. The bulldozer put all those pick and shovel men out of work just like the tractor, the lawnmower and the truck in their relevant industries. How do you think wages have grown over time. Magic pudding by the sound of it.

Leave Nail alone,
he's got intelligence:

Not sure what nail wants .... reward CEO's for losing money ?

No, reward CEO's for innovating instead of taking the easy way out and sack people so it looks good on their balance sheet.

They are innovating. Making use of more modern technology, just like the caveman with the wheel and the farmer with his new tractor.

Nails would have us all riding horses again just to keep the coach and dray builders employed.

yes they use technology to rip off the public whilst hiding behind a taxpayer guarantee of depositors money. That Sir is not innovation !!

If they had half a brain like the German banks they would be supporting productive industries instead of a property ponzi scam !

German banks are subject to a depositor's guarantee as well.

Innovating is about reducing costs which includes reduced and obsolete staff and work practices, you have answered the question you just can not handle the reality of it.

And I never knew this -

those interest only loans have an expiry period -
many will run out this year & people won't have the extra money to pay the principal.
The honeymoon is over!

Not really. They still have to meet L/V criteria. At worst they'll be forced to sell.

It's only a Ponzi scheme in your head. As long as the banker's equity in the asset is greater than the value of the outstanding loan it doesn't matter a fukk.

Only up to a certain point - after that you run out of people to sack, and thus increase the numbers who can't use your services due to lack of income...

Not quite. The size of the money supply hasn't changed. You are also assuming that the displaced employees remain in that state forever. Even if they did the money simply resides in somebody elses' pocket where they are free to transact with the same suppliers.

Now if the fruits of technology were shared around more - via a tax regime or whatever with carefully defined and isolated funding..... not the perpetual slush fund titled 'consolidated revenue'....

Not quite again. Technology breeds support industries. Just think about that bulldozer for a minute. Sure 1 bulldozer displaces 100s of men swinging picks and shovels. However, engineers are required to design the bulldozer, Fabricators are required to build them, Miners are required to extract the raw materials and fuel. The fuel needs to be refined. Sales and support networks spring up and so on.

All of these require greater skills than swinging a pick and demand higher wages. This is the key why productivity growth results in wages growth and the reason why wages have grown above the rate of inflation for most of the post industrial revolution.

The conundrum today is that total factor productivity is falling, essentially due to the dramatic fall in capital productivity. Capital is extremely mobile and will seek a home where the greatest opportunity cost is reached. You are witnessing this right now to the detriment of labour. Taxing the bejeezus out of it does not help.

More correctly Australian innovation is about reducing costs and increasing the bottom line by retrenching people.

Do you honestly think that now that the banks have retrenched these people and saved costs using automation that these reduced costs are going to be passed onto the consumer ?? Cheesy LOL
